"Green Red" is both the name of the protagonist and the metaphorical color, there is a slight dark red in the cyan, like a rusty iron sheet in a damp corner, and like an indomitable weed where the sun cannot shine, but it is always obscure.

The story begins in the early 1980s, when Wu Qinghong (Gao Yuanyuan), who is still in high school, is subject to near-crazy control from her father. Father was like a brown candy, so that she could not shake it off. Qinghong's father was once full of faith, and as a Zhiqing, he left Shanghai with his wife and came to the remote mountain village of Guizhou and became a third-line worker in a state-owned enterprise factory. More than a decade later, these third-line workers seem to have been forgotten by the state after the reform and opening up, so the father began to find ways to return to Shanghai, and it was this idea that led to his strict control of his children and restricted all the freedom of his children, he strictly required his son to practice the accordion, and transported his daughter to and from school like a prisoner. Trying to cut off all ties between sons and daughters and the countryside. This naturally made Qinghong and her brother extremely disgusted and distressed.
Unlike her father, Qinghong grew up in a mountain village in Guizhou, and for Qinghong, this is their hometown. Here is her youth, her girlfriends and the lovers of her first love. Like all teenage girls, she and her girlfriend wander through the green mountains and rivers, sharing their favorite novels and music. Talking about the body that only girlfriends can talk about, the boys they loved and loved themselves, they secretly went to the underground dance party that was forbidden at the time, the kind of clothes that wore sunglasses and flared pants, which seemed quite fashionable at the time, and the smell of youth hormones wafted away.
But such a life was resolutely prevented by his father, stalking, grounding, and insulting until he forced Qinghong to go on a hunger strike. The people Qinghong loves are also ignored by her father because of their rural status, and their father burns their love letters, and the bright red high heels that symbolize in the film are also thrown out fiercely.
The cruelty of the father is like a piece of cold ice, doomed to the cruel facts that the father does not want to see in the end, but what happens- the inferior and self-respecting rural boys use the strength of wine to forcibly have a relationship with them despite Qinghong's opposition. The young man was shot when he was hit hard. Qinghong finally returned to Shanghai as her father wished, but she was schizophrenic...
It was the sadness of that era. A grain of sand of the times falls on the head of an individual and is a mountain. What did that father's zhiqing era go through? We don't know. And when the reform and opening up comes, the huge difference between urban and rural areas and the anxiety and uneasiness caused by it will bring a huge shadow that lingers to the family and life, it is like a manic wild horse pounding the father's heart, making him suffer, and thus transmitting to the whole family, causing tragedy. The film is small and large, and the Qinghong family reflects the reality that a whole lost group was exhausted at that time and tried to return to the city from the countryside.
So, thanks to the good times we live in, let such a tragedy not be staged again. Gao Yuanyuan was nominated for the Best Actress Award at the Cannes Film Festival with this film, which also made more people remember the name Gao Yuanyuan from now on.
