He has long been committed to the research of waterjet technology and its application in coal mine safety engineering, and has made a number of important research achievements in coalbed methane mining and complex coal mine gas disaster prevention.
In view of the major safety problem of the serious gas disaster in complex coal mines in China, Li Xiaohong put forward the academic idea of integrating the prevention and control of disasters and the exploitation and utilization of coalbed methane, invented a gas, solid and liquid multiphase oscillation jet that can produce pulse stress waves and sonic shock waves, innovatively developed a multiphase oscillation jet to enhance gas permeability and strengthen gas desorption technology in the coal seam, independently developed a complete set of equipment for advanced treatment of coal mine gas disasters, and has been in Chongqing, Sichuan, Guizhou, Shanxi, Henan, Nearly 50 coal mines such as Anhui have been promoted and applied, which has made important contributions to the safe production of coal mines in China. Its achievements have been listed by the Ministry of Finance as a major national scientific and technological achievement transformation project, and have played a certain leading and exemplary role in the country.
As the chief scientist of the "973 Project", Li Xiaohong is now working on supercritical carbon dioxide enhanced shale gas extraction. On June 17, 2017, Li Xiaohong's project team conducted China's first shale gas supercritical carbon dioxide fracturing field test in Shaanxi Yanchang Petroleum-Yan 2011 well, and achieved a complete success, pressing carbon dioxide into the ground and sealing it at the same time, and recovering shale gas for use. This success marks that China has made an important theoretical and technological breakthrough in independently exploring the efficient development of continental shale gas, and has reached the international forefront in this field, which is expected to open up a new way of green, environmentally friendly and efficient continental shale gas development.
