On October 21, the "AI+Journalism" interdisciplinary seminar was held jointly sponsored by the Hillhouse School of Artificial Intelligence, the School of Journalism, the Interdisciplinary Platform for Intelligent Social Governance, the National Institute of Governance and Theory Ecology, and the Institute of Future Communication of Chinese Min University. Hu Baijing, vice president of Chinese Min University, attended the meeting and delivered a speech.

Zhou Yong, executive dean of the School of Journalism, and Wen Jirong, executive dean of hillhouse artificial intelligence college, delivered speeches successively. Li Biao, Vice Dean of the School of Journalism, Zhang Di, Director of the Department of International Journalism and Communication, Professor Li Qin, Associate Professors Chen Yang, Tang Zheng, Liu Dong, Pan Wenjing, and Tana; Dou Zhicheng, Vice Dean of Hillhouse School of Artificial Intelligence, Professors Xu Jun, Song Ruihua, Qi Qi, Associate Professors Su Bing, Liu Yong, Xu Hongteng, Associate Professors Wang Zihe, Chen Xu, Hu Di, Shen Weiran, Zhou Xiao, Li Chongxuan, postdoctoral researchers Zhang Xiao, Zhu Qiannan, and Gao Zefeng attended the meeting. The meeting was co-chaired by Wen Jirong and Zhang Di.

At the seminar, Hu Baijing said that in the era of intelligent society, a single discipline can no longer solve complex theoretical and practical problems, and only in the integration of multiple disciplines is it easier to produce new creative results. The importance of the cross-integration of artificial intelligence technology and journalism and communication science also need not be repeated. In just two years since its establishment, Hillhouse Artificial Intelligence College has grown into a vibrant, vigorous college that represents the future trend of discipline transformation of Chinese University, and its achievements are worthy of recognition. The School of Journalism is one of the first batch of colleges in China to obtain the right to award first-level discipline degrees in journalism and communication, with two national key disciplines of journalism and communication and a national experimental teaching demonstration center, and is also the supporting institution of the "Journalism and Social Development Research Center of Chinese Min University", the key research base of humanities and social sciences of the Ministry of Education. In the four national first-level discipline evaluations carried out by the Ministry of Education, the discipline of journalism and communication ranked first consecutively. There has always been a strong willingness to cooperate between the teams of the two courts, and it is hoped that the two sides can use this meeting to establish a practical restructuring plan, clarify the goals and possible difficulties, and make influential achievements in the joint teaching and scientific research of "AI+ News".

Zhou Yong put forward suggestions on cooperation in talent training, curriculum construction, scientific research innovation, and think tank construction. He said that at the teaching level, the School of Journalism has some courses to try to apply artificial intelligence to journalism practice, the next step, hope to combine the characteristics and needs of the discipline of journalism and communication in the course construction, cooperate to create one or two "AI + journalism" courses as a precursor, and suggest that talent training focus on the field of master's degree. At the level of scientific research, if artificial intelligence technology can be used as a cutting-edge skill in the practice of journalism and communication, it will be able to greatly improve the scientific research ability of traditional disciplines, and it is hoped that in the future "double first-class" construction work, based on providing some basic support for the entire journalism and communication discipline, using AI to promote the establishment and revitalization of public data resource libraries, thereby improving the level of scientific research results and playing a leading role. At the level of think tank construction, the School of Journalism established the National Governance Public Opinion Ecology Research Institute in 2020, aiming to build a leading platform for public opinion ecological research, evaluation and decision-making support in the new era, relying on this platform, the teams of the two courts have many research topics worthy of cooperation and exploration in the direction of intelligent identification of public opinion, prejudgment, and effective identification of global false information.

Tana, Song Ruihua and their team made keynote reports on "Status quo and development trend of AI Journalism education", "'Wenlan': Chinese Multimodal Pre-training Model for General Understanding", "Introduction to the Construction and Function of Chinese Min University Interdisciplinary Research Data and Tool Platform'" at the meeting.

In the open discussion session, the teachers of the two academies respectively introduced the work that can be applied to the intersection of "AI + news" in personal research, including intelligent anchors, human-computer interaction and communication, social network analysis, fact verification, news recommendation algorithms and the design of game theory mechanisms in them, fairness and interpretability of communication systems, computational aesthetics, and multimodal content creation. The participating experts also had in-depth exchanges on interdisciplinary curriculum settings, talent training, and scientific research cooperation.

Wen Jirong said that exploring a new paradigm of artificial intelligence-driven humanities and social science research is an important construction task of Hillhouse Artificial Intelligence College. The School has done a lot of basic support work in this direction, and recently incorporated the method of identifying the results of interdisciplinary research publications into the assessment plan. The promotion of interdisciplinary research of "AI+ journalism" is an interdisciplinary research work with the characteristics of the National People's Congress. If we can increase the artificial intelligence discipline skills in the talent training link of the School of Journalism, they will become the first batch of important talent reserves in China who are proficient in the field of journalism and have an artificial intelligence technology background, and they will become influential industry pioneers in the future. It is hoped that the teachers of the two colleges will have more exchanges and jointly explore a new model of "AI + news" high-level composite talent training to help the school's "double first-class" construction.

The conference was the second session of the "Artificial Intelligence + X" interdisciplinary series of seminars planned and launched by the interdisciplinary platform of intelligent social governance of Chinese Min University. Relying on the Hillhouse School of Artificial Intelligence, the interdisciplinary platform aims to create an interdisciplinary research method of artificial intelligence with the characteristics of the National People's Congress by building a one-stop new interdisciplinary research platform for the whole school and serving the whole school, explore a new paradigm of artificial intelligence-driven humanities and social science research, produce decision-making consulting results that serve the national strategy to promote the development of intelligent society, and make Chinese contributions to deep participation in the global intelligent society governance.
