In order to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and show the glorious course of the past century with the picture scroll of the times, under the guidance of the Literature and Art Bureau of the Central Propaganda Department and the Art Department of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the People's Network and the People's Oriental Publishing and Media Co., Ltd. jointly produced a 100-episode short video program "Brilliant History, Picture Scrolls of the Times - Party History in Fine Arts Works".

From "Departure" and "The Birth of New China" to "Spring Tide" and "Boiling China", the program selected more than 100 outstanding works of art with historical representation, recorded the glorious history with the beauty of art, and praised the spirit of the times. Among them, the short video "Mao Zedong Meets Nixon" in this episode introduces the oil painting of the same name created by the famous artist Ma Gang.

On February 21, 1972, U.S. President Richard Nixon flew to Beijing for a historic seven-day visit to China. During the visit, Chairman Mao Zedong met with President Nixon, and the work "Mao Zedong Meets Nixon" shows the scene when the two talk.

When the author creates the theme characters, he integrates the artist's perspective of looking at problems and things, including the use of color. As the author of this painting, Ma Gang, a professor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, introduced: "In the picture, I deeply portrayed the hands of the characters. Chairman Mao raised his hand, and there was a feeling of lifting up the world, showing the heart and pattern of the great man. President Nixon's hands were clasped tightly on the couch, showing the humble side of the character. ”
