This is Mr. Cai Yuanpei's definition of a university, Mr. Cai's lifelong pursuit of freedom and equality, until his death, he never gave up his insistence on freedom and equality. Mr. Cai created the pioneering wind of freedom at Peking University, teaching students not to read as a way to get rich in the future, not to uphold the viewpoint of learning and excellence, and to teach students to learn for the sake of knowledge and not to become slaves to learning, which unconsciously caused the May Fourth Movement.

Mr. Cai Yuanpei admitted Mao Zedong to peking university as a librarian, and Mao Zedong later said that it was during that time that made him more able to find the way to save the survival and come into contact with Marxism.

Mr. Cai Yuanpei once resigned from the post of president of Peking University, went to France, and founded the French-Chinese Study Abroad Association with some benevolent people, and it was these funds that brought Zhou Enlai, Deng Xiaoping, Chen Yi and others into contact with Marxism.
