On April 27, they had just returned from the Guangxi garrison at noon and rushed to the Cangshan Fire In Dali in the afternoon.
The majestic Cangshan Mountain is the main peak at the southern end of the Yunling Mountains, composed of nineteen peaks with an altitude of more than 3500 meters, with a maximum height of 4122 meters, and extremely complex geological landforms and meteorological conditions have caused great difficulties in fighting fires.
Faced with the adverse effects of thin air, chaotic air flow and dense high-voltage lines in the mountainous areas of the plateau, Liu Hong's unit fought for 8 consecutive days and cooperated with the ground fire extinguishing team to extinguish the fires in many fire sites. On May 9, the forest fire in Wanqiao Town, Dali City, Yunnan Province, broke out again, the fire site is close to the national highway, and the surrounding tourist attractions are distributed, and due to the deep forest of the valley and the complex terrain, the forest fire has developed and spread rapidly under the action of windy and high temperature weather. Control the fire, it is urgent. Liu Hong's crew was ordered to turn to chi aid again and quickly controlled the fire. At 10:20 a.m. on May 10, during the implementation of the bucket water extraction operation, The helicopter suddenly had a dangerous situation in the air, the rotation was out of control, and at the critical moment, the crew went all out to deal with it, but failed to succeed, and Liu Hong, Li Kaitao, Liu Chao, and Sun Zhongjie made heroic sacrifices.
Cangshan wept blood, Erhai wept. At the memorial service, thousands of cadres and masses presented flowers to the martyrs and expressed their deep remembrance to the heroes who passed away.
The oldest of the four martyrs is 39-year-old Liu Hong, who has successfully completed many major forest fire fighting tasks. In 2018, when the Kunming Aviation Rescue Detachment was formed, Liu Hong, as one of the founders of the detachment, led everyone to get up early and study the characteristics of plateau flight and practice professional skills, and the team achieved its first flight in only 2 months.
Liu Hong is the only son in the family, when he was 3 years old, his mother was accidentally disabled, and when he was 5 years old, his father was paralyzed from the neck below the neck due to a work injury, and he could not take care of himself. Successive blows have made Liu Hong develop a self-reliant and tenacious character. In 2000, 18-year-old Liu Hong was admitted to the Changchun Flight Academy of the Air Force with excellent results, and then entered the Army Aviation Academy for further study, becoming the first rural child in the county to fly into the blue sky.
Because of his work, Liu Hong missed many important moments in the family, both disabled parents, two young sons waiting to be fed, usually cared for by his wife He Jing. Even his wife won the "most beautiful fire sister-in-law" to Beijing to receive the award, he could not show up.
Flying in a foreign land, aviation to serve the country, and not caring about the old and young at home are the norm for rescuers. While leading the squadron to study hard, he completed more than 20 major tasks such as aircraft modification and engine overhaul, and led a number of scientific research projects to establish research and development, accumulating valuable experience for the maintenance of plateau models.
In order to train more mechanics for the team, Sun Zhongjie, a three-generation military veteran, condensed his 20 years of aircraft maintenance experience and wrote down more than 400,000 words of business notes.
