Ma Yinchu did not listen to Premier Zhou's advice and insisted on contradicting Chairman Mao, and his remarks were awe-inspiring

author:The novelty of literature and history

Ma Yinchu is a famous economist, educator and demographer in China, who was the president of Peking University and is known as the "first person to learn Chinese mouth". Many people may not know that there is an incomparably heavy history behind this title.

In 1953, the first census was conducted in New China, and the results showed that the total population of the country was 601.9 million, with a growth rate of 2 percent. This aroused Ma Yinchu's great attention, and he immediately went to Zhejiang, Shanghai and other places to conduct three years of field investigation on the population problem. After investigation and research, it was found that the growth rate of China's population was higher than 2.2 percent.

Ma Yinchu realized that this was a very serious problem, because if this continued to develop, after 50 years Chinese more land and less land, I am afraid that even eating would become a problem. Therefore, Ma Yinchu wrote articles such as "Population Control and Population Research", "The Relationship between China's Population Problem and Development Productivity", and "New Population Theory" to provide suggestions for solving the population problem.

At first, Chairman Mao also believed that the population problem should be solved. On October 12, 1956, when meeting with the Yugoslav women's delegation, Chairman Mao pointed out that the production of human beings themselves should be adapted to the production of society, and proposed "family planning". In 1957, Chairman Mao once again proposed that China should advocate birth control and have planned births. However, under the influence of the leap forward atmosphere that began in 1957, at the beginning of 1958, Chairman Mao's population thinking underwent a major change -- more people are better to do things, and more people are good.

Under these circumstances, Ma Yinchu's "The New Population Theory" seems particularly out of place, as if he were specifically contradicting Chairman Mao. Kang Sheng seized on this point and openly criticized Ma Yinchu through reports, newspapers and periodicals, in an attempt to make Ma Yinchu an enemy. I remember someone saying that Kang Sheng, this person, will only pay attention to two types of people, one is the person who will hinder his future, and the other is the person who helps his future. Ma Yinchu unfortunately became the second type of person and was used as a stepping stone by Kang Sheng.

At this time, Premier Zhou stepped in to save Ma Yinchu. At that time, Premier Zhou said such a sentence: Ma Yinchu is a man with backbone, a sense of justice, and patriotism.

A few months later, before a big wave swept in, Premier Zhou also deliberately talked to Ma Yinchu once, hoping that Ma Yinchu could make a review to survive the storm safely. Ma Yinchu knew that Premier Zhou was for his own good, but he did not accept Premier Zhou's advice. Because Ma Yinchu carefully sorted out the "New Population Theory" after talking with Premier Zhou, he found that he was not wrong.

Ma Yinchu believed that the more the truth became clearer, the intellectuals should not succumb to critics who suppressed people. Ma Yinchu issued a public statement:

Although I am nearly eighty years old, knowing that I am outnumbered, I stand alone and fight until I die in battle, and I will never surrender to the kind of critics who are dedicated to suppressing unreasonable persuasion.

In addition, Ma Yinchu also apologized to Premier Zhou, who cared for and loved him. He wrote:

Finally, I would like to express my gratitude to another good friend (referring to Zhou Enlai) and apologize... This time I encountered academic problems, I did not accept his sincere advice, and my heart was extremely unhappy, because I had a considerable grasp of my theory, I could not but insist, and the dignity of scholarship could not but be maintained, so I had to refuse to review. I hope that my friend will remain humble and not treat my refusal to review as disobedience.

Ma Yinchu regarded this as an academic problem, but Kang Sheng would not regard this as an academic problem. Under Kang Sheng's direct command, Peking University set off a climax of encircling and suppressing Ma Yinchu, and several major newspapers and periodicals also published articles criticizing Ma Yinchu. In this case, Ma Yinchu had to resign as president of Peking University.

Later, Ma Yinchu was dismissed from some other positions, and even the right to publish articles was deprived. As a result, Ma Yinchu almost completely disappeared.

It was not until September 1979 that the report and decision to wash Ma Yin's first grievances were not annotated. The decision pointed out that Mr. Ma Yinchu's "New Population Theory" is correct in his view that the national economy should be comprehensively balanced and that all departments should develop in a planned and proportional manner. Ma Yinchu finally regained his reputation and became the honorary president of Peking University at the age of 97.

Although Ma Lao has long since passed away, his great righteousness of upholding the truth for the country and the people will last forever in the world. Mr. Song Qingling once praised Ma Lao as "worthy of being a treasure of the Chinese nation", and this praise, Ma Lao deserves it!
