On the south bank of the Pearl River in Guangzhou, in the middle of the Grand Marshal's Palace Square next to the Jiangwan Bridge, the statue of Dr. Sun Yat-sen stands facing the river. Behind the statue is the former site of the Grand Marshal's Mansion in Guangzhou, a national key cultural relics protection unit.

Guangdong is the birthplace of the Xinhai Revolution and has left many imprints related to the Xinhai Revolution. The former site of the Grand Marshal's Mansion in Guangzhou is one of the more important of these marks.

"The former site of the Grand Marshal's Mansion in Guangzhou is the oldest and most magnificent site in the world where Sun Yat-sen and Soong Ching Ling lived together. Formerly known as the Guangdong Shimin Clay Factory, which was built in 1906, the Grand Marshal's Mansion is a gatehouse and two porch-style buildings that combine Chinese and Western styles, and was selected into the fourth batch of Chinese 20th Century Architectural Heritage List in 2019. Cheng Cunjie, director of the Memorial Hall of Grand Marshal Sun Yat-sen, told reporters.

From 1917 to 1925, Sun Yat-sen established revolutionary power in Guangdong three times, two of which opened office here, led the Dharma Protection Movement and the National Revolutionary Movement, prepared for the establishment of the Whampoa Military Academy, and realized the first Kuomintang-Communist cooperation, which had an important and far-reaching impact on Chinese history.
