Sun Ce saw that Dong Xun was a talent, so he gave him a heavy responsibility and made him a thief under his command.

Huang Longluo and Zhou Bo took advantage of the chaos at the end of the Han Dynasty to gather thousands of people and horses to rob their homes and houses in the Shanyin area, committing crimes against them. That night, a strong wind blew and the warship capsized, so the Generals of the Wu Army rushed to jump on the boat and escape. Dong Xun's subordinates persuaded him to abandon the ship and flee for his life, but he reprimanded him, saying: "I was ordered to guard the mouth of the Shushu and guard against Cao Thief here, how can I abandon the ship and flee?" Whoever says such a thing again will be killed immediately. The crowd listened and did not dare to persuade again. As a result, the ship capsized that night, and Dong Raid was drowned. Sun Quan knew this and was grieved.
In general, Dong Xun was a famous general in Jiangdong, Xiao Yong was good at war, not afraid of life and death, and made great contributions in assisting Sun Quan in stabilizing Jiangdong and fighting against Liu Biao and other forces. In order to stabilize the morale of the army and complete the task, he reprimanded his subordinates and refused to abandon the ship and flee, resulting in the overturning of the ship and drowning.
