Weng Qingda, a professor at Wuhan University, passed away and participated in the engineering design of Xiaolangdi and Gezhouba

The surging news reporter learned from the School of Water Conservancy and Hydropower of Wuhan University that Comrade Weng Qingda, a member of the Communist Party of China and a professor at Wuhan University, died in Wuhan at 18:30 on March 26, 2020 at the age of 97 due to ineffective medical treatment.

According to public information, Weng Qingda was born in January 1924 in Linchuan County, Jiangxi Province, graduated from Nanchang University in July 1948, entered Jiangxi Bayi Revolutionary University in July 1949, taught at Jiangxi Provincial Water Conservancy College in 1950, Nanchang University in 1951, Wuhan University Water Conservancy Department in 1952, and studied at Tsinghua University from 1953 to 1955. In 1955, he taught at Wuhan Institute of Water Conservancy (renamed Wuhan Institute of Water Conservancy and Electric Power in 1958) and successively served as lecturer, associate professor and professor. He joined the Communist Party of China in 1985. He retired in 1988.

Weng Qingda also served as a member of the Hydraulic Building Standardization Technical Committee of the Ministry of Water and Power, a senior consultant and chief engineer of the Yantian Engineering Headquarters of Shenzhen Municipal Corporation, and the director of the Hydraulic Engineering Committee of hubei hydropower engineering society.

School of Water Conservancy and Hydropower of Wuhan University: Professor Weng Qingda has long been engaged in the teaching, scientific research and design of hydraulic buildings, and he is rigorous in his studies, and he is a teacher. He mainly teaches courses such as water construction topics and hydraulic buildings, and participates in the compilation and translation of many textbooks, among which "Hydraulic Buildings" (basic part) won the second prize of the State Power Corporation for Excellent Textbooks. Nearly 20 graduate students and trainees have been trained. He is responsible for nearly 10 scientific research projects under the ministry and has published nearly 20 papers.

Weng Qingda has participated in the design of a number of projects such as the power generation and discharge model of the Xiaolangdi Reservoir of the Yellow River, the shipping hub of jiangxi Xinjiang Shuanggang, and served as the leader of the drainage design team of the main building of the Gezhou Dam Project of the Yangtze River. He has been awarded the "Celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China" medal issued by the CPC Central Committee, the State Council and the Central Military Commission in 2019.
