Zhang Hong proposed "Jiangdu Right" for Sun Ce, elevated his goal of revenge for his father, and laid the foundation for Jiangdong

In the second year of Chuping (191 AD), Sun Jianzhan died in Xiangyang, and his nephew Sun Ben led the remnants to Defect to Yuan Shu. At the age of seventeen, Sun Ce buried his father Qu'a with Sun Ben, but instead of following Sun Ben to Yuan Shu, he crossed the Yangtze River with his mother and moved to Jiangdu (江都, in present-day Jiangdu District, Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province).

Jiangdu belongs to Guangling County, Xuzhou, and has no connection with the Sun family in Fuchun, Wu County, Yangzhou, nor can it be found that the Sun family has relatives in Jiangdu. During the critical period when his father was killed in battle, his subordinates were taken over by Yuan Shu, and the Sun family business was about to die, Sun Ce did not ask Yuan Shu for soldiers and horses to protect the armed forces left by his father, but instead went north to Jiangdu to do what?

(Sun Ce)

This is where Sun Ce is superior to his father. It turned out that Sun Ce had gone to meet Zhang Hong, a famous scholar in Xuzhou, and implored him to offer advice for his future career.

Zhang Hong (Chinese: 张纮; pinyin: Zhāng Zhāng), a native of Guangling, Xuzhou , (present-day Guangling District, Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province) studied under Dr. Han Zong , studied " Jingshi Yi " and " Ouyang Shangshu " , and received " Han Poems " and "Li Ji " and "Zuo Shi Chunqiu " from Puyang in Waihuang ( in present-day Minquan County , Shangqiu , Henan Province ) , and was an outstanding talent with a full belly. The three dukes, including the great general He Jin, the grand lieutenant Zhu Juan, and Sikong Xun Shuang, had all conquered him, hoping to obtain his talent. After following Sun Ce, lü Bu and Cao Cao came to rob him, which shows the prosperity of his reputation.

Sun Ce went to Jiangdu because Zhang Hong was guarding the funeral of his mother in Jiangdu at that time. Sun Ce went to see him many times and asked Zhang Hong for guidance. This is six or seven years earlier than Liu Beisan Gu Maolu pleading with Zhuge Liang, and what is even better than Liu Bei is that Liu Bei was already confused and dazed when he asked Zhuge Liang to be middle-aged, and it was completely on how to "want to believe in righteousness in the world" (saying that the good point is to revive the Han Room, and the bad point is how to call himself a king and hegemony) to ask Zhuge Liang, who is much younger than himself.

Sun Ce, on the other hand, has formulated a comprehensive strategic plan for how to develop and grow in the future, and went to seek advice from the elders.

Sun Ce's strategy is:

The first step was to reclaim his father's subordinates from Yuan Shu; the second step was to immediately transfer to his uncle Danyang Taishou Wu Jing, and continue to gather scattered pawns, recruit troops and horses, and expand his power; the third step was to expand eastward and occupy Wu County and Huijian County; third, the near-term strategic goal was to attack Jingzhou and avenge his father's hatred; fourth, the long-term strategic purpose was to become a foreign domain of the imperial court.

The so-called foreign domain is actually an independent regime that divides one side, only recognizes the dominance of the imperial court in etiquette, and pays tribute to the imperial court.

At first, Zhang Hong did not want to advise Sun Ce, and politely refused Sun Ce's request on the grounds of his mother's funeral. Sun Ce wept and repeatedly requested. Touched by Sun Ce's sincere feelings from the heart and his lofty ambitions, Zhang Hong revised and improved Sun Ce's strategic plan and put forward the famous "Jiangdu Right".

In view of the importance of this countermeasure, the full text is recorded below for your officials to taste:

In the past, the Zhou Dynasty Daoling was late, Qi, Jin and Xing, the royal family was already peaceful, and the princes paid tribute. If you surrender to Danyang and collect troops from Wuhui, then Jing and Yang can be one, and the enemy can be repaid. According to the Yangtze River, Fenwei De, Jie Zhi Qun Qun, Kuang Fu Han Room, Gong Ye Yu Huan, Wen, is it just a matter of disciples outside the domain?

(Zhang Hong)

The strategic plan revised and improved by Zhang Hong is obviously higher than Sun Ce's concept. Sun Ce only wanted to occupy Wu and Hui to the east and attack Jingzhou to avenge his father, and did not dare to destroy Yuan Shu and Liu Biao, while Zhang Hong wanted to completely occupy Yangzhou and Jingzhou. Then occupy the Yangtze River and sweep away all kinds of warlords, big and small.

"Kuang Fu Han Room" is said to be somewhat grandiose, but in fact it is a cover-up. The latter sentence reads, "The merits are in Huan and Wen, are they just foreign domains?" "But the horse's feet were exposed, and the original ultimate purpose was to unify the world and call the emperor self-reliant." The merits had already surpassed those of the Dukes of Qi Huan and the Dukes of Jin, and the imperial court was no longer able to reward them, so they had to give in. Not to be a vassal of the imperial court is to not recognize this imperial court.

Zhang Hong also said that if Sun Ce succeeded in his achievements, he would also bring a group of like-minded people to defect to Sun Ce.

"Jiang Du is right" is no less than "Longzhong pair", and the guiding significance of Sun Ce's determination of long-term strategic planning is no less than the significance of "Longzhong pair" for Liu Bei. In the process of implementation, the "Longzhong Pair" was still full of twists and turns, theoretically questioned by Fazheng and Pang Tong, and in reality undermined by Guan Yu, and the plan of the Two Lines of Jingzhou and Yizhou to march into the Northern Expedition could not be realized.

Although Sun Quanshi had Lu Su's "pair on the bed", there was nothing new in it, except for the explicit statement that "the Han Room cannot be revived" and zhang Hong's meaningful question sentence "No disciple is only a foreign domain" to be more straightforward as "building an emperor to seek the world", the overall strategic thinking still failed to surpass "Jiang Du is right".

Sun Ce fully agreed with Zhang Hong's idea, believing that "it was in accordance with the contract with Juntong", and then entrusted the "old mother and weak brother to" Zhang Hong, saying that he had no worries about the future and would immediately implement it as planned.

A young man who has not yet reached the weak crown can not be chaotic in times of crisis, calmly formulate his own long-term strategic plan, and spare no effort, climbing mountains and wading waters to neighboring states to ask for the guidance and perfection of the wise, planning and then moving, which is really admirable.

Lu Ji praised in the "Theory of Discerning Death": "King Yicai of Changsha Huan died, weak crown and hair, recruited the widowed elder, and recounted his business with him." He also believes that Sun Ce's request for advice from Zhang Hong is the key to his career achievements.
