This year marks Huang Yi's 17th year in the design industry, and it also happens to be his eighth year of starting a company in Shanghai. Recalling starting from scratch from Jiangxi to Shanghai, Huang Yi said that he was a stubborn person and a lucky person. His body flowed with the dare to fight dare to break into the "Ganpai blood", that year only by relying on a network recruitment from Jiangxi to Shanghai, although there is no friend acquaintance, but met a good boss, with a good salary, living in the old bungalow, slowly, Huang Yi fell in love with this city with a strong literary atmosphere and petty bourgeois feelings, landed on the ground, stayed for 13 years. Huang Yi was born in 1983 in Yugan, Jiangxi Province, to an ordinary peasant family, and loved to paint since childhood. In 1998, he studied in Shangrao, Jiangxi, and after graduating from the interior design major, he has been engaged in interior design work in Nanchang, came to Shanghai from Jiangxi through online recruitment in 2005, founded Shanghai Yini Design Office in 2010, and entered Donghua University for further study in environmental art in 2012.
At this stage, Huang Yi's design firm has gradually entered a good situation, and has won many indoor space awards in recent years, but Huang Yi knows that unlike artists, success in the field of design is not based on talent, let alone accidental, and must work hard. From an ignorant teenager to becoming a well-known designer in Shanghai now, it is actually Huang Yi's strength that pushes him to the present: persistent, bitter, and dare to fight.
Huang Yi frankly thought about "becoming famous", but for him, this is just a driving force for struggle, returning to his original intention, he still hopes to do a good job in every case, serve every guest, and enjoy the challenges and sense of achievement brought by design.

Design life, step by step
Sina Home: Please introduce yourself briefly.
Huang Yi: I am an interior designer Huang Yi, focusing on design, not construction. My last name is Yellow, yellow yellow, so it may be easier to remember. In terms of personality, I may be a little more stubborn, and sometimes tell some cold jokes.
Sina Home: Please briefly review your design path, what are the important turning points in this process?
Huang Yi: In 1998, I was admitted to the secondary school, which was the first interior design major of the school. Remember graduation to find a job to find a lot of types, no one wants, once interviewed to draw cartoon characters I think the painting is very good, when it is almost over came a master, directly killed me, think back to this master is not the arrangement in the dark, to let me do the interior design industry.
Sina Home: You didn't want to do interior design when you graduated?
Huang Yi: We don't understand anything after graduation, and we actually enter the interior design industry! At that time, there were still very few interior designs, and more flat ones. So think about it, which master I hated at that time, I should thank him now, it is a nobleman.
Sina Home: The interior design is still very interesting.
Huang Yi: For my design career, the turning point was in 2005, I came to Shanghai from my hometown in Jiangxi, and I was in a state of studying on the Internet to submit my resume, there was no interview, and I was recruited directly from the Internet, which I think is a big turning point.

3 years ago, I happened to be in Bangkok to investigate, brushing WeChat, unexpectedly saw a greeting text message from China that Shi Shen had been sinking for 1 year: "Have you returned to China?" When will we meet again." 4 years ago in the winter, through the introduction of beautiful female students to know this fashionable boy, unexpectedly has been a successful elite in the textile industry, and immediately the children are complete, can be described as a big winner in life that makes people envious and jealous, it is also my first feeling of meeting this owner, after preliminary exchanges, a week later I handed in a detailed concept service book, and then the news is like a stone sinking into the sea, there is a foreign surprise in front. After returning to China, I arranged to meet with him for the first time, listened to the information between us Shi Shen for 1 year, his search for design, saw the interior design hung with marble, I couldn't help but sigh is this still home? Or is it the home of our fashionable and handsome boys? I looked at him in surprise with a helpless look. After calming down, I took out the concept plan of 1 year ago, made a detailed explanation, and immediately agreed to the commission, after 3 years of construction, the final soft furnishings, in the early summer of 2017, a brand new home was launched, I called it "the private residence of spring hearts".
Sina Home: Did you have friends in Shanghai? What attracted you to stay?
Huang Yi: No friends. In fact, at that time, I graduated and looked for a job in Guangzhou for three months, and no one wanted it. After experiencing many other stories, I will not tell them here, and I will have the opportunity to share them with you later. Later, through the recommendation of classmates to nanchang to learn computer drawing, and then smoothly entered the interior design line, do home decoration design, in the 4th year, feel like a bottleneck in the design, there is a thought of wanting to come to Shanghai, maybe when I was a child to watch more TV dramas on the beach, I was attracted to the beach scene. Although the salary was not high at that time, the boss was still quite generous in terms of food and housing, so I was not particularly poor, I still lived in an old bungalow, and then slowly liked here, petty bourgeoisie, literature and art. Also, I feel fair to outsiders here. In 2010, a coincidental opportunity set up its own company, Yini Space Design.
Sina Home: You have a lot of energy in you.
Huang Yi: I don't know.
Sina Home: I heard that you later went to East China University for further study, and you are still an alumnus of Huang Quan, do you have time to study as a designer?
Huang Yi: Yes, from 12 to 15 years, I studied in the Department of Environmental Arts of East China University, in order to improve my knowledge and academic qualifications. I graduated from secondary school in 2001, worked in Nanchang, the capital of Jiangxi Province, for 4 years and came to Shanghai, I was studying secondary school at that time, almost all of the courses I studied were university courses, almost the same as Donghua's environmental art courses, so later further education can also be regarded as "light car familiar road", time can be balanced.

The value of design, people-oriented
Sina Home: What is your design philosophy?
Huang Yi: Now many people advocate the "no design concept", and I think the no design concept covers a wide range. For example, in terms of styling, how do we make space simple. From a functional point of view, we should not create some functional trouble, we should solve the problem of the actual application of the function, and do some design from the perspective of function. From the perspective of color, for example, we may not need too many colors in a space, how to highlight the theme, this is what we have to think about.
Like I did a case a while ago, I made an attempt to deal with contrast colors, red and blue. The contrast is not so simple, I did not use too bright red, I chose the earth red of the earth color, the effect is good.

Area: about 600 square meters
The goal of the project is to demolish the 90s buildings of the existing plots and build them into a comprehensive commercial and residential building. The shape of the site is a C-shaped concave - a three-sided building, and the project is located in a plot of land in the 1990s traditional residential building and Zhangyang Road, which is also a main road in Pudong. The building with an area of about 600 square meters includes housing, restaurant, tea room, chess and cards, film and television, and jewelry functions.
Sina Home: What do you think is the value of design?
Huang Yi: It depends on which side you stand on, in terms of business design, I think it is necessary to help the business spend less money and let him make more money. From the perspective of home design, I think it is necessary to consider the owner's living and create a space that is convenient to live in. For example, many families are now worried about storage, and we designers need to consider how to design a more scientific space design for the owners to help them do a good job of storage.
Sina Home: How do you see the changing trend of future design?
Huang Yi: The future of home decoration should be people-oriented, around the people to do the design, function priority, style will tend to be simple. Must not do some deliberate decoration, decoration should be from the perspective of function. For example, in the past, everyone liked to do a video wall, in fact, I was strongly opposed to deliberately making such a video wall, I would guide the owner to say, you just need
Hang up the TV, make the rest of the noodles clean, and the TV will become the protagonist of the living room. I think function is really important, styling is secondary, and design should be around function.
Everyone's aesthetic is different, including some of his standards. Recently, I have also done some homestay projects, how to use the concept of no design to have their own symbolization and have their own style, how to control their desire to perform? Some international masters, such as Tadao Ando, and Japan's Hongxi Noya Hotel Project, how they design from the perspective of customers, from the perspective of guests, this is also the direction I have been paying attention to.

While daring to innovate, we also seek design freshness
Sina Home: As the top 10 designer of China's interior design new forces list in Shanghai, what kind of quality do you think the "new forces" should have?
Huang Yi: In the final analysis, it is "new", I think the first thing is to constantly innovate and dare to innovate. Second, dare to bring some new ideas from the design of cross-border, for example, when we design a space, we add some other aesthetic elements, such as flower arrangement, sculpture interactive installation artwork, etc. to enhance the visual sense and sense of fun of the space.
Sina Home: What kind of breakthrough do you want to seek at this stage?
Huang Yi: On the one hand, team management, my company now has more than a dozen people, I hope to have some changes, can not be so desperate to draw a picture until the old, so I am thinking about how to consolidate the team.
On the other hand, in terms of design, I will now think more about how to make each work its own personality, so that each case has its own different story, which is also the direction I am learning, including learning from many masters' works, digging out some valuable directions, and then applying it to my own design.
