Cao Cao's defeat at Chibi, Liu Bei's southern conquest of the so-called four counties of Jingnan in Lingling, Guiyang, Wuling, and Changsha, especially in the capture of Guiyang County, was the most special: Guiyang County's Taishou Zhao Fan fought first and then surrendered, and after surrendering, he married Zhao Yun; after the marriage, he married again, and then he surrendered, and if he did not succeed, he was captured and surrendered again. Liu Du, Jin Xuan, and Han Xuanna only descended once, while Zhao Fanna only descended twice. Liu Du surrendered once and still held the position of Taishou, but his son Liu Xian went to Jingzhou to accompany the army; Jin Xuan and Han Xuan surrendered once, but they were in a different place, but they achieved their subordinates Gong Zhi and Wei Yan and Huang Zhong; Zhao Fan surrendered twice, and was still Guiyang Taishou. It can be said that the same people have different lives.

The reason why Zhao Fan surrendered twice, knowing that his status as a surrendered subject was not to be welcomed by the new master, for his own interests, accompanying his sister-in-law was not successful in being opposed by Zhao Yun's fist, and his self-esteem was greatly hurt, and he suddenly began to arrest Zhao Yun and take revenge.

Zhao Fan surrendered twice, but was able to die well, all because of the following three points.

First, the historical record is different.

The Fifty-second Description of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms: Zhao Fan was released, and Guiyang Taishou was still ordered. The Chronicle of the Three Kingdoms, Shu Shu II, and the Biography of the Ancestor Lord records that the Ancestor Qi was the Assassin of Jingzhou, and he also conquered the four counties in the south. Wuling Taishou Jinxuan, Changsha Taishou Han Xuan, Guiyang Taishou Zhao Fan, and Lingling Taishou Liu Du all descended. The "Biography of Yun Bei" records: (Zhao) Fan Guo escaped, (Zhao) Yun Wuxian jie. The Biography of Yun Bei is a biography of Zhao Yun's character that was supplemented by Pei Songzhi, a famous historian of the Southern Song Dynasty, in the "Romance of the Three Kingdoms and the Biography of Zhao Yun". All in all, Zhao Fan surrendered to Liu Bei, but the surrender process was different: in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, it was first fought and then surrendered, and then it fell again; in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, it was surrendered; in "The Tale of Yunbei", it was surrendered first and then fled. Zhao Fan's final whereabouts are not indicated, or he died of old age or illness or committed suicide or other killing, it is not known.

Second, the geographical location of Guiyang County.

Guiyang County is one of the four counties of Jingnan (Jiangnan). The four counties of Jingnan are located in the south of Jingzhou and the south of the Yangtze River. Jingnan, also known as Jiangnan during the Warring States period, refers to the south of the Jingjiang River, the basin of Dongting Lake. During the Eastern Han Dynasty, this jiangnan land was divided into four county-level administrative districts under Jingzhou: Wuling County, Changsha County, Lingling County, and Guiyang County. Guiyang Commandery (桂阳郡), placed in the second year of gaozu of the Western Han Dynasty (205 BC), ruled Chenxian County (present-day Chenzhou, Hunan), and has changed many times since then. Emperor Xuan (Liu Qing, reigned 74 BC – 49 BC) was later associated with the Lianshui River Basin, the Lingling River Basin, and the Lower Reaches of the Huanshui River, south of the city of Leiyang in present-day Hunan Province, and the Lianjiang and Beijiang River basins north of the Mouth of the Lianjiang River in Guangdong Province. The territory of Guiyang Commandery under Zhao Fan was the area after Emperor Xuan of Han. During the Two Han Dynasties, the four counties of Jingnan were the fundamental places for Ma Liang to "accumulate money and grain".

Third, Zhao Fan's heart.

The Eastern Han Dynasty King Yue wrote the "Hero Record" :(Liu) to show that he was a man and was not very polite. (Zhang) Envy is a grudge, so he betrays the expression. The watch has not been closed for many years. Envious of illness and death, Changsha restored its sons, the table attacked and yi, the south of zero, Gui, the north of Hanchuan, thousands of miles, with more than 100,000 armor. Zhang Xian was the Taishou of Changsha in the early years of Jian'an (196), and in the fifth year (200) he rebelled against Liu Biao and married Cao Cao. After Liu Biao recaptured Changsha, he recaptured Lingling, Guiyang and other places to the south. For the newly retaken Changsha, Lingling, and Guiyang, Liu Biao must have sent his henchmen to be Taishou. Zhao Fan was a bit special, and Guiyang Taishou should have succeeded his brother. After Zhang Xian's rebellion, his brother was appointed by Liu Biao as the Taishou of Guiyang. After his death, he was replaced by Zhao Fan. Therefore, although Jin Xuan, Han Xuan, Zhao Fan, and Liu Du surrendered, they were also forced to land, and the result was that Jin Xuan was attacked and killed by Liu Bei; Han Xuan had no following; Zhao Fan escaped; Liu Du, without detail. Therefore, Zhao Yun, who was meticulous in his thoughts, could see the clues at a glance. As recorded in the "Biography of Yun Bei": (Zhao) Yun Yue: "(Zhao) Fan forced his ears to fall, and his heart was unpredictable; there were many women in the world." "So I don't take it. Forced surrender, literally, means forced surrender, not sincere surrender.

Since ancient times, the subordinates have always not invited the master to see. Zhao Fan knew in his heart that he would immediately marry Zhao Yun with Liu Bei's henchmen, and marry the widow of Guose Tianxiang to Zhao Yun, the purpose of which was not to follow in the footsteps of Jin Xuan, Han Xuan, and Liu Du.

Author's note: capricious, the description often changes, one moment is like this, the next moment is like that, changeable. Zhao Fan, that is, Liu Biao's Taishou, and also under Cao Cao's command, and then Liu Bei's newly surrendered subordinate, after successfully marrying Zhao Yun, and after failing to marry Zhao Yun, he developed a rebellious heart and took action. Zhao Fan fought first and then descended, and then reversed, and then fell again, capriciously, all for the sake of one word "profit.". As the saying goes, people see the benefits but not the harms.
