Chen Yuanguang was a famous general in the early Tang Dynasty, and he led his father to quell the "indigenous chaos", which had a far-reaching impact on the Fujian-Guangdong region and even Southeast Asian countries.
According to reports, in the second year of the general chapter (669), the Chaozhou area of Quanzhou was "indigenous and chaotic". Chen Yuanguang, along with his father Chen Zheng, led more than 10,000 soldiers from the Central Plains with 87 surnames into Fujian and Guangdong to quell the rebellion. After the quelling of the chaos, the local area was reclaimed, wasteland was reclaimed, more advanced agricultural and animal husbandry technology was introduced, and water conservancy undertakings and industry and commerce were built at the same time to promote production and prosper the economy; Xingxue promotes humanistic indoctrination, pursues Confucianism, advocates filial piety, and spreads Chinese civilization; Encourage intermarriage between Han Chinese and indigenous peoples and promote ethnic integration. This has greatly changed the backward appearance of the Quanchao area in the past, laid a solid foundation for the comprehensive progress of the local economy and culture, and had a far-reaching impact on the development of future generations. Chen Yuanguang's great achievements in his life were far-reaching, and he was the first assassin in the history of Zhangzhou, Fujian Province, and was enshrined as the "Holy King of Kaizhang", and was posthumously awarded the title of "King of Guangji" during the Song Dynasty.
Since then, the descendants of the Chen family's military departments have mostly stayed in southern Fujian, eastern Guangdong and other places, and some have spread as far as Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Southeast Asian countries, and have also had a far-reaching influence on the development history of these regions and countries.
This year marks the 1340th anniversary of Chen Yuanguang's garrison in Raoping. Raoping County opened a memorial hall, and with a large number of texts, pictures and historical materials and selected cultural relics, showing Chen Yuanguang's great achievements in building eastern Guangdong. According to Chen Junjie, director of the Chen Yuanguang Memorial Hall, this move aims to build a carrier and platform to inherit and carry forward Chen Yuanguang's doctrine and pioneering spirit, enhance the sense of identity of the people in eastern Guangdong and Chaozhou and surrounding areas and even overseas Chinese for the ancestral bloodline, and jointly build and share the new Chaozhou.
