Chen Yuanyun was born in 1587, a native of Yuhang, Hangzhou, who traveled east to Japan at the age of 33 and lived in exile for 52 years, bringing Chinese jiu-jitsu to Japan to teach and integrate into local martial arts, recruiting apprentices to teach martial arts, and being regarded by the Japanese as the "originator of judo".

"As far as we know, before Chen Yuanyun's dongdu, Japan already had its own boxing skills, and there were many genres, but the development was not complete. Chen Yuanyun took his apprentices to pass on his skills during his time in Japan and spread Chinese martial arts. Yang Xiangdong, a professor in the Physical Education Department of Nankai University, said, "Today's judo techniques mainly include throwing skills, blocking skills, etc., which are not available in Japanese national sumo wrestling, and there are indeed similarities with Chinese wrestling, and judo competitions often have grip characteristics, which emphasize the concept of soft and weak to win strong, which is also inseparable from Chinese boxing." ”

"Therefore, the Japanese scholar Hara Nianzai said in the "Discussion of the Sages", 'Yuan Yun Shan Fist Technique, at that time, did not have this skill, Yuan Yun created and passed it on.' Therefore, the State Fist Method takes Yuan Yun as the kaizu'. "Judo has now become a modern Olympic competition, which is the contribution of the Japanese people to world sports." Chinese Chen Yuanyun combined Chinese martial arts such as Shaolin boxing with Japan's original 'boxing', making great contributions to the development of Japanese jiu-jitsu to judo. ”

Qian Ming, a researcher at the Zhejiang Academy of Social Sciences and a doctor of literature at Kyushu University in Japan, said that Chen Yuanyun is not only the "originator of judo" in Japan, but also the disseminator of Chinese culture. "He was able to write and martial arts, was versatile, and his achievements in poetry, martial arts, pottery and medicine were extraordinary, and many aspects had a profound impact on Japanese society."

Qian Ming introduced, for example, in literature, Chen Yuanyun is the inheritor and innovator of Chinese public security literature, and has played an active role in the innovation of modern Japanese literature; in the pottery making process, Chen Yuanyun presided over and taught the kiln pottery making technique, with a unique style, known in Japan as "Yuan Yunyao"; in medicine, Chen Yuanyun practiced medicine in Japan while widely disseminating the medical techniques and doctrines of Zhu Danxi, a Native of Yiwu, Zhejiang Province, in the Yuan Dynasty.

"What makes me most proud is that Japan can be said to be 'as if they were their own' for Chen Yuanyun's calligraphy, paintings, pottery and other works, which are widely popular in Japan and have had a wide cultural impact, which is also a manifestation of our Chinese cultural self-confidence." In my opinion, this is a real Sino-Japanese cultural exchange that goes deep into the people, and Chen Yuanyun played a very important role in helping Chinese culture 'go out' during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Qian Ming said.

Although he has "run away" for more than fifty years, Chen Yuanyun still advocates national integrity and is deeply attached to his hometown.

Li Li, a doctoral alternate researcher at the Graduate School of Literature at Nagoya University in Japan, introduced that Chen Yuanyun has repeatedly signed himself "Daming WulinRen" in his Japanese calligraphy and painting works, and has taken the name of Shibayama and Baishan in his hometown of Yuhang, which is enough to see the feelings of his hometown and country.

"'Kangzhuang Avenue is patrolling, and Fu entering the palace gate also bows', this poem was written by Chen Yuanyun at the age of 84. I think what he wants to express is that although he did not serve as an official in China, he preached and taught in Japan and spread Chinese culture, which can be said to be after bowing down and dying. Li Li said. (End)
