◎Behind the scenes

○ Between science fiction and humanities

"Destiny Planning Bureau" This movie from the plot alone, it is easy to think of some romantic comedies, this story about fate controlled by government agencies, and a politician to choose their own fate because of love, is actually adapted from the work of the famous science fiction novelist Philip Dick, his novel is a best-selling guarantee, and left many classics over the decades, such as "Blade Runner" and "Minority Report" are his works, for this "Destiny Planning Bureau", Philip Dick said: " This is a work that I created earlier, when I wanted to write a love story, but I didn't want to write the story too much like a love story, so how to set the background of the story? So, I want to start with love changing a person, this person has his own life, but when his true love appears, he understands that his original life is very problematic, and then a mysterious institution appears, warning him that he can't change his life, but he has to decide his own destiny, so he has to fight for his life because of love. After this story was basically formed, I wrote it very smoothly and completed the book very quickly. When I learned that the film was made into a movie and starred Matt Damon, I was looking forward to the film, because Matt Damon's image of an agent is deeply rooted in the hearts of the people, and in the story of Destiny Bureau, the young politician needs to have a little bit of an agent's characteristics so that his action scenes in the story will be somewhat convincing, and Matt Damon is obviously the best candidate for this role. ”

Destiny Bureau is written and directed by George Nofi, who has written Time Machine and 12 Arhats, and he met Matt Damon because of Shadow 3. For his directorial debut, George Nofi is full of confidence: "Philip's original book has a wild imagination, he created such an interesting government agency as the Destiny Planning Bureau, which is a mysterious organization affiliated with the government, they are responsible for planning what every human being should do after birth, marrying and having children, work trips, etc., and when the Destiny Planning Bureau finds that human beings have exceeded their planned behavior, they will 'adjust' this person and put him back on track." Such a structure is actually very similar to Philip's past works, and people as individuals will always fight against those unfathomable forces. The F.R. Adjustment Bureau is much like a messenger of God, possessing superhuman mysterious powers, and when they appear in front of the male protagonist and threaten him, the man named David has only two choices: resign himself to fate and obey his heart. Of course, in the movie, he chose the latter, and thus unfolded the whole story. At first I was worried about the Fate Bureau's description, because it could easily feel absurd and funny, but then Philip and I repeatedly discussed the way the FMA presented the film, and eventually the whole movie still had the character of a thriller suspense film. ”

For this work with a science fiction temperament, Philip analyzed: "In fact, science fiction is just a shell of this work, compared to my past works such as Blade Runner, the emotion of this story is heavier, and some readers have told me that the F.A. Adjustment Bureau is really just a reflection, it may interfere with your love work, obstruct your work boss, reprimand your teacher in school." I find it interesting that the reader looks at the Bureau of Destiny from a humanistic perspective. I like that interpretation. In fact, when I created this story, I also thought about this, the Destiny Bureau does not exist, and the weapons of its members are also in the category of science fiction, but what this Destiny Bureau does is something that everyone can empathize with, because they force people to change their fate. ”

○ Fight against fate

"Destiny Bureau" starred Matt Damon, since "Spy Movies", Matt Damon has become Hollywood's new box office golden boy, for this latest work, Matt Damon said: "This film is about fate and the free will of man, defy fate, what will happen? The story gives an answer. David was a promising New York state senator who was politically adept, his goal was to become president, and he was young, handsome, and a glamorous man of his time. He won unprecedented success in politics, everything went forward step by step according to the design of fate, until he met Alice in a campaign party, 5 seconds, just 5 seconds of looking at each other, completely changed his fate, which he had never thought of, and it was also something that the Fate Planning Bureau did not think of, so love can change a person's fate. This kind of story was very attractive to me, and after reading the novel, I decided to take on this role. ”

Regarding the setting of the "Destiny Planning Bureau" in the film, the director analyzed: "The Destiny Planning Bureau is the core element of the whole film, and at the beginning we wanted to make this organization into the style of the Cold War period in the last century, so their way of dressing, speaking, and performing tasks all carry the characteristics of the Cold War period." They are very much like messengers of God, and their task is to ensure that everyone follows the path of life planned by fate step by step, and if anyone deviates from the set route, the Bureau of Destiny Planning must come forward and make adjustments. In the 'Book of Destiny', David and Alice can't know each other, let alone fall in love, so when David and Alice fall in love, we must come forward and find a way to separate the two, but David and Alice always meet again, and they are more and more deeply in love, and this love is enough to threaten the lives of the two. The romantic love and thrilling action scenes in the film are two atmospheres, and what twists the two lines together is the Fate Planning Bureau. ”
