This may be the last battle, even if it is a whitehead

Director Cheng Shouzhen.

At the beginning of Gengzi, the new crown was raging. Cheng Shouzhen, who has experience in fighting SARS, keenly judged that "once the epidemic expands, a large number of nursing staff will need to rush to the forefront".

It was the Spring Festival, but she gave up her rest and went all out to prepare for epidemic prevention and control: emergency allocation and reserve of manpower, preparation of isolation wards and fever clinics, and organization of more than 1,200 protective trainings. As the chairman and chairman of the national and provincial societies, she called on nursing staff across the province and even the whole country to actively participate in the fight. Nurses eagerly signed up. She carefully selected 300 people in the hospital to form 4 batches of anti-epidemic echelons and go out at any time.

On Chinese New Year's Eve January 24, she received an emergency notice, and the hospital immediately sent a medical team to Wuhan. Due to the full preparation, Cheng Shouzhen quickly identified 12 support nurses and reported their names. Considering her age and physical condition, the hospital leaders decided to "let the young people go first".

On the second day of the New Year, when she was about to dispatch 4 medical team members to Wuhan for the second time, she signed up again and was on standby. "This may be the last big battle of my career, I have to", with this belief, when on the evening of February 6, the hospital was again tasked with the state to send 130 medical staff. Within 2 hours, she completed the assembly of 100 nurses and asked for battle again: "I am a Communist Party member, I should charge ahead, respiratory and critical care is my profession, the state is calling, the call will come!" She asked three times, and finally approved.

On February 7, Cheng Shouzhen was appointed deputy secretary of the provisional party committee of the Wuhan Medical Team of Sun Yat-sen University and secretary of the provisional party branch of the Wuhan Medical Corps of Zhongshan First Hospital, leading 131 team members to Wuhan. "It's an unprecedented challenge, we're fully in wartime: rescue, rescue, help!". After arriving in the "lockdown" of Wuhan, she and the medical team took over the first 2 ordinary wards within 24 hours, and quickly converted them into isolation wards that met the requirements to admit patients; the second 24 hours to fill 100 critically ill patients; and the third 24 hours to build a simplified version of the advanced life support unit with ICU function in the general ward. Accomplished a number of normal impossibilities.

"This live I know, let me come"

Faced with the challenges of emergency treatment, serious illness and difficult treatment, Cheng Shouzhen proposed that "life support must be strengthened and robbed from the hands of the god of death" based on years of experience in respiratory and critical care and management!" ”。

She led the team to quickly rescue and treat: to create a "grouped" "one-to-one" rescue and nursing system and a "double control" and "five rings" support system to ensure the smooth development of advanced life support; to show strength: she will adhere to more than 20 years of "critically ill patients medical joint rounds" experience to Wuhan, guide the team to carry out prone ventilation, PiCCO (hemodynamic monitoring), CRRT + hemosorption, ultrasound nasal catheterization, intensive care clustering and other advanced technologies. She was the first to introduce her intensive care experience to several medical teams across the hospital. She not only leads her own team, but also participates in consultations with other medical teams many times.

A patient who was treated with ECMO after cardiac arrest was extremely unstable, and the hospital's temporary command asked her to consult and serve as the leader of the nursing team at the first time. She consulted three times, even twice a day, and before she could eat, she stuffed a chocolate entrance into the door and went to work again. High-intensity work is a challenge for young people, but at the age of 58, she endures the pain of waist injuries, faces difficulties, sleeps and forgets to eat... The speed of life and death is how to "grab" back!

Early rehabilitation: She took the lead in carrying out early pulmonary rehabilitation nursing, and served as the leader of the pulmonary rehabilitation nursing team of the whole hospital; good management: she led the team to summarize experience in a timely manner, emphasizing "one do and one guide", and creating a total of 33 isolation ward management systems, process guidelines, emergency plans, and nursing standards... Provide replicable and replicable experiences for epidemic prevention and control and patient treatment. Cheng Shouzhen often said to the team members: We must use the hardest skills to rescue every patient, and rescue one is one...

The new crown pneumonia is highly contagious and the clinical manifestations are complex and changeable.

On February 13, when Cheng Shouzhen and the team members conducted a joint medical and nursing round, a mask oxygen patient had shortness of breath and rapid decline in blood oxygen saturation, "must be intubated immediately, otherwise it is in danger."

In the care of COVID-19 patients, the risk of endotracheal intubation and coordination is extremely high. But she didn't hesitate or flinch in the slightest, "This live I'm familiar with, let me come!" ”。 Although she was already sweating and her goggles were foggy, it did not affect her skilled operation. With the tacit cooperation of the team, tracheal intubation, mechanical ventilation, closed suction, deep vein puncture intubation, gastric tube insertion and other operations were completed in one go. The patient's blood oxygen saturation continued to rise and vital signs tended to stabilize. This is how a seriously ill patient was "saved"! Based on sars treatment experience, Cheng Shouzhen presciently prepared 40 closed suction tubes and brought them to the battlefield before departure, which came in handy after the first case of tracheal intubation. Minimize the risk of infection among healthcare workers due to aerosol transmission. Not only is she experienced and skilled, but she always comes forward in times of danger.

More than a month has passed, and Cheng Shouzhen has led the team through arduous battles and completed the first task of curbing the spread of the epidemic. Winter goes to spring, and spring blossoms. Medical teams supporting Hubei from all over the country have been evacuated, and as a high-level medical care force, her team continues to fight the second battle!

Insist on being a caregiver with depth and temperature

Cheng Shouzhen insists on "being a caregiver with depth and temperature". Every time she enters the "cabin", she does not forget to "talk to the patient", pat the patient's shoulder, shake the patient's hands, and send "wish cards, condolence cards, wish cards". The patient said: "Although you wear armor-like protective clothing, you can't see your face, but you can feel your fiery heart!" "It's just a small thing for you, but it's a mountain of grace for me!"

Cheng Shouzhen warms the patient's feelings and gathers the hearts of the team members. When she first arrived in Wuhan, she brought warm cotton clothes and food, drove for 1 hour in the snow to visit the first batch of support team members, and everyone heard that they were wearing single clothes and slippers and rushed to her, excited and tearful. She passes "heart stack", birthday wishes, holiday flowers and other "one thing one greeting". For dozens of consecutive days of fighting, some of the team members had blood stains on their cheeks by masks, and some had headaches, toothaches, allergies and other discomforts, she looked in her eyes, remembered them in her heart, and solved their problems. Catching a glimpse of her growing white hair, she quietly hid her hair in her hat. In this difficult and difficult environment, she wants to be the strongest "leading goose". She gave full play to the role of party building leadership and party members fighting bastion, and 54 team members joined the party in the line of fire. She used her firm ideals and beliefs and the power of example to lead everyone to "not wear war, not paralyzed, not slackening" until Wuhan was unsealed!

When the door of the return plane opened, a thin figure walked down the gangway, and the colleague who picked him up was stunned: "Who is this?" Is it Director Cheng? How did her hair turn all white? The leading colleague rushed up desperately, hugged her in pain, and tears came out of his eyes. The team members finally understood why she wore a hat all the time, "she is a person with family feelings." She cares for life with her life and is the most beautiful warrior.

In 2020, Kapok opened and thanked, and Cheng Shouzhen returned safely with the largest chi aid team in the history of Zhongshan First Hospital.

Nursing is science and art

She brought this art and hope to Serbia

In April 2020, the state requested the dispatch of a critical care specialist to support Serbia. Cheng Shouzhen has experience in fighting the epidemic in Wuhan and is fluent in spoken English, although the hospital leaders hope that she can take on this task, but considering that she has just returned from Wuhan and is very tired, they asked her to recommend a nursing specialist. Cheng Shouzhen resolutely asked for battle: "As long as the country and the people need it, I have an unshirkable responsibility!" ”。

It is not the first time she has done her best to build a community of human health. In 2013, when she was the vice president of the Chinese Nursing Association, as a member of the Chinese nursing delegation, she helped the Chinese Nursing Association join the International Nurses Association; in 2014, she presided over the "Third World Conference on Disaster Nursing" to focus on disaster relief and human health; in 2016, she communicated with the president of the International Nurses Association and the president of the China-Japan-Korea Nursing Society to witness the signing of the "BRICS" Belt and Road Nursing Cooperation Memorandum; in 2018, she led the nursing team to undertake the Guangdong Province Diplomatic Project" Pacific Islands Advanced Medical Talent Development Program"; she has also established cooperative relationships with her counterparts in the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia and other countries to jointly promote human health and fulfill international humanitarian obligations.

In the second battle of the epidemic in 2020, she once again went out to help Serbia fight the epidemic.

She deeply felt that the responsibility of this aid to Serbia is heavy, and in this deadly battle against the serious epidemic, all countries in the world are united in solidarity. Before leaving, Cheng Shouzhen learned about the local situation through remote connection, sorted out and translated Wuhan's anti-epidemic experience into four sets of English manuals, and rushed to Serbia. After more than ten hours of sailing, it was 4 a.m. when she arrived, and soon, she was once again thrown into the fight against the epidemic with common destiny.

Cheng Shouzhen travels tens or even hundreds of kilometers every day, and goes deep with his teammates to treat hospitals, nursing homes, welfare homes, border passes and other crowded and high-risk places. From the partitioned isolation layout of each medical institution to the protection of medical staff, from standardizing the treatment and care of seriously ill patients to the normalization of epidemic prevention and control... She gives professional advice and shares selflessly. Every day, the boat and car were tired, back to the station, "the bones were like scattered", the old problem of waist and neck was committed again, and the next day she put on various plasters and began a long journey again...

On the morning of May 12, Cheng Shouzhen wore a national flag brooch and an armband with the words "Chinese Health" written on it, and drove 240 kilometers with his teammates to Niš, one of the most severely affected cities in Serbia, to visit nursing homes and hot spring hospitals for infectious diseases, to learn about local patient treatment, disinfection and isolation and waste management, and to guide key technical issues such as respiratory and critical care and pulmonary rehabilitation. In an exotic epidemic area, she spent the 39th Nurses Day of her career with local nurses, the 200th anniversary of Nightingale's birth. She puts the Nightingale spirit into practice.

China's anti-epidemic team aiding Serbia.

After 40 days of aid to Serbia, with the help and guidance of Chinese experts such as Cheng Shouzhen, the local epidemic prevention and control and the treatment of new crown pneumonia patients have achieved remarkable results. Serbia saw a more than 80% drop in the number of critically ill COVID-19 patients and a 76.8% drop in hospitalization, making it one of the countries with the lowest severe illness and mortality rates in Europe.

Its Defense Minister Wulin praised: "In Serbia's work, you don't feel far away from any place, you don't feel dangerous in any situation, and you don't feel that there is no way to solve any difficulty!" Minister Wulin personally awarded Cheng Shouzhen and other experts the highest medal of honor for "defending the country" in recognition of their "outstanding contributions and efforts to prevent and control the epidemic in Serbia."

The angel in white is originally a warrior in white

The domestic and international fight against COVID-19 in 2020 is just a condensation and a mirror image of Cheng Shouzhen's 40-year nursing career.

In the fight against SARS in 2003, she took the lead in introducing the closed artificial airway care technology brought back from overseas studies into the isolation ward to reduce the exposure risk of medical staff.

In the 2008 earthquake relief, she successfully handled the post-traumatic stress response of the injured and led the team to complete the rescue and treatment of 38 injured people.

In 2014, when the "3.01 violent terrorist incident" occurred in Kunming, Cheng Shouzhen was appointed by the National Health and Family Planning Commission (the predecessor of the Health Commission) as the leader of the intensive care expert group and rushed to Kunming overnight. She arranged herself in the Kunming First People's Hospital, which is the closest to the scene of the incident, the largest number of injured people, and the most serious injuries, night and day, with less than 3 hours of rest time every day, insisting on guiding the treatment of the seriously injured in the ward, and a week later, she achieved a 77.8% ICU transfer rate, a 17.3% discharge rate, and the record of nursing "zero complications, zero accidents, and zero defects" was evaluated by the leaders of Yunnan Province as "very professional, very strong sense of responsibility", and was praised by the National Health and Family Planning Commission.

In 2014, Cheng Shouzhen joined the national medical team and went to the Shannan region of Tibet at an altitude of nearly 4,000 meters for technical support. In a rainy and foggy weather, the rugged mountain road became more and more muddy and difficult to navigate, coupled with days of lack of oxygen and fatigue, she fell, fractured her lumbar vertebrae, and due to conditions, could not be transported immediately, and was sent to the local ICU. Even so, she never forgot her mission to Tibet. A Tibetan girl in the adjacent bed, because of chronic kidney failure, severe acidosis and lung infection, was in a serious condition and had to undergo mechanical ventilation and CRRT immediately. But Shannan Hospital has never carried out these technologies. Cheng Shouzhen endured the pain, verbally commanded, and together with the team members who came to guide the local medical staff to rescue. After 8 hours of hard work, the girl turned the corner, and this rescue technology also filled the gap in the Shannan area. The rescue deeds caused great repercussions in the local area. However, she herself "lay" for 1 month before returning with the medical team to continue treatment, and she also fell into the problem of bending down and not being able to sit for a long time.

In 2017, when she received an invitation to help from the Xinjiang Corps Hospital, she overcame the pain in her lumbar and cervical spine and ran to the Gobi Desert without hesitation. For a week, she worked non-stop to help local hospitals train, coach technology, and improve quality. To this day, the Kashgar Health Bureau has once again asked her to provide training and guidance to local medical personnel. "She doesn't stop".

Unconsciously, she worked in a nursing position for forty years

There are no heroes who fall from the sky. Cheng Shouzhen, 19, stepped into work and was assigned to the respiratory intensive care unit. On the challenging professional road, see the fragility and strength of life. She is determined to devote her life to saving lives and helping the injured, and doing her best to protect her health. She is tireless and enterprising, never gives up the pursuit of professionalism, and has traveled abroad many times to learn the knowledge and technology of critical care. All the way to work for 39 years, save countless people, the original intention has not changed.

Taking intensive care as the foundation of her life, she has exerted the ability of "nursing experts" to the extreme, and has become a "lantern bearer" for seriously ill patients. In 1998, she was commissioned to form the Internal Medicine ICU. The first case of severe alveolar proteinosis undergoes double alveolar lavage, and the first case of ECMO technology is carried out... Every success saved is a living life, and behind every success is her hard work. Cheng Shouzhen took the lead in carrying out a monthly "ICU joint rounds" in the hospital, which was done for 20 years, without interruption, solving countless difficult nursing problems. She often participates in the consultation and rescue of critically ill patients inside and outside the hospital, and provides guidance. She understands "seeking the welfare of patients" in her heart, is diligent in her efforts, and practices in practice.

She has edited more than ten national textbooks and monographs such as "Acute Critical Nursing"; published more than 100 papers, of which "The Construction of ICU Nursing Safety and Quality Evaluation Index System" won the title of "Top Academic Paper Leader of China's Excellent Science and Technology Journals 5000"; her "Research on the Core Capabilities and Training Programs of ICU Professional Nurses" won the first "China Nursing Science and Technology Award" and was received by Li Keqiang, then Vice Premier.

In 2020, she published a paper on the fight against COVID-19 in the Chinese Journal of Nursing and BMJ, a top international medical journal. Behind the outstanding results of the answer sheet is the pursuit and love of the profession.

She is enthusiastic about public welfare, leading the formation of the "China Nightingale Volunteer Nursing Service Corps Guangdong Nursing Society Detachment", organizing public welfare activities such as "sending knowledge and technology", and driving the "Lingnan Nursing Express" to more than 20 grassroots levels in the province for nearly 100 times of technical support and training more than 70,000 nursing personnel. On Nurses' Day in 2017, she organized nursing experts from 18 special committees in the province to take to the streets for large-scale free clinics to benefit the health of the people. In 2019, she led the establishment of 80 community nursing stations and trained nearly 1,000 Internet + nursing teachers and nurses. In 2020, as a member of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, she performed her duties and spoke out: "Let the Internet + care enter thousands of households." Contribute wisdom and strength to the promotion of health.

All the way to the stone into the seal, all the way to the true dedication.

She adheres to the original intention and mission of "life first". She has spent nearly 40 years practicing, inheriting and carrying forward the Nightingale spirit. She saves lives with humanity, protects health with fraternity, ignites hope with dedication, and measures the path of medicine with loyalty. She took her life to the mission, loved all sentient beings with great love, and interpreted the Nightingale spirit of the new era with courage and hard work.
