The 48th Nightingale Award Ceremony was held in Beijing Wang Qishan presented awards to Chinese winners

Beijing, September 3 (CNBC) -- According to the "News and Newspaper Summary" of the Voice of China of the Central Radio and Television Corporation, the 48th Nightingale Award Ceremony was held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on the morning of the 2nd. Wang Qishan, Vice President of the People's Republic of China and Honorary President of the Red Cross Society of China, presented awards to Chinese winners.

The three nursing workers in China who won the award this year were: Cheng Shouzhen, director of the Nursing Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, Hu Minhua, chief nurse of the Ninth Hospital of Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province, and De Yali, chief nurse of the intensive care unit of Qingyang People's Hospital in Gansu Province.

State Councilor Wang Yong spoke at the meeting. He said that 3 outstanding nursing workers in China have won the Nightingale Medal, which is the country with the largest number of winners this year. The three winners resolutely implemented the important instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping on the supremacy of the people and the supremacy of life, took the protection of the people's life safety and physical health as the highest mission, and rushed to the front line of the fight against the new crown pneumonia epidemic without hesitation, vividly interpreting the core values of socialism and the Red Cross spirit of "humanity, fraternity and dedication". It is hoped that nursing workers across the country will follow the example of the winners and bear in mind the earnest entrustment of General Secretary Xi Jinping, and continue to make new achievements in improving people's health, building a healthy China, and promoting the development of humanitarian causes.

Ke Qiuming, Personal Envoy of the ICRC President for China and Head of the East Asia Regional Delegation, attended the conference and delivered a speech.

Cheng Shouzhen, the representative of the winners, and Zhang Bowen, the representative of the young nurses, spoke at the meeting.

The Nightingale Prize, the ICRC's highest honour in international nursing, is held every two years to recognize outstanding care workers around the world who have made outstanding contributions to humanitarian causes. This year, 25 care workers from 18 countries won awards. Since china first participated in the selection in 1983, 83 outstanding nursing workers have received this honor.

Chen Zhu, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and president of the Red Cross Society of China, and Wang Yi, state councilor and foreign minister, attended the meeting. More than 700 people, including responsible comrades of relevant departments of the central and state organs and representatives of medical personnel, attended the award ceremony.
