Established in 1981, the Chen Bochui Children's Literature Award is one of the literary awards with the longest continuous operation and the largest number of award-winning writers in China. In order to further expand its influence, make this award based on a new platform, and contribute to the development of children's literature in China and even the world, in 2014, it was jointly organized by the Shanghai Municipal Press and Publication Bureau, the Shanghai Baoshan District People's Government, and the Professional Committee of the Chen Bochui Children's Literature Fund, and listed it as one of the important awards of the "China Shanghai International Children's Book Fair", officially renamed the "Chen Bochui International Children's Literature Award", which has been successfully held for seven sessions so far.

The Chen Bochui International Children's Literature Award is selected once a year. The awards include 1 "Writer of the Year Award" and "Special Contribution Award" and 10 "Annual Works Awards".

From now on, the Chen Bochui International Children's Literature Awards Awards Committee sincerely solicits entries for the 2021 Chen Bochui International Children's Literature Award "Annual Works Award" from relevant publishing houses, newspapers and periodicals and children's literature writers, and hereby informs the relevant matters as follows:

1. Award Settings

The "Annual Work Award" includes 5 annual book (text) awards and 5 annual book (picture book) awards. The works should have a high level of ideology and artistry, have the characteristics of children's literature, and be loved by the majority of children and young people.

II. Participation Requirements

Entries should be newly created children's literature works published and published between June 1, 2020 and June 30, 2021. The book is based on the copyright page, which is the first printing of the first edition. All entries require clear copyright relations and compliance with China's regulations on publication management and copyright. If it is confirmed that the entries violate the above relevant provisions, they will be disqualified from participating in the competition and the entrants shall bear all legal responsibilities. Entries for the past Chen Bochui International Children's Literature Award may not be re-declared.

1. Apply for the annual book (text) award: the theme and genre of the work are not limited, short story collection, medium and long stories can be. The authors of a collection of works that participate in a single book (such as poetry collections, novel collections, fairy tale collections, etc., which cannot be collections of multiple genres) must be the same person, and the newly created works in the collection must account for more than two-thirds of the works created. Each publishing institution (including private studios) can apply for 3 kinds of books, each of which must submit 10 sample books, and fill in the "2021 Chen Bochui International Children's Literature Award Book (Text) Award Entry Form", providing the author's profile, work introduction and author contact information. Choose one of the same set of books from the same author to participate in. If the private studio declares separately, the application form must be stamped by the cooperative publishing house at the same time. Individuals cannot apply for book awards.

2. Apply for the Annual Book (Picture Book) Award: The introduced version of the picture book is not included in the list of participating works. All entries require clear copyright relations and compliance with China's copyright regulations. Each publishing institution can apply for 5 kinds of books, each of which must submit 2 sample books, and fill in the "2021 Chen Bochui International Children's Literature Award Book (Picture Book) Award Entry Form" in Chinese and English. If the private studio declares separately, the application form must be stamped by the cooperative publishing house at the same time. Individuals cannot apply for the Picture Book Award.

3. Declaration time

1. The deadline for the Annual Book (Text) Awards is June 30, 2021.

2. The deadline for the Book of the Year (Picture Book) Awards is September 30, 2021.

Obsolescence will not be accepted.

5. Other rules

1. The Council of Chen Bochui International Children's Literature Awards has the exclusive right to use the "Chen Bochui International Children's Literature Award" and the "Chen Bochui Children's Literature Award", and no individual or organization may publish books or organize other activities in the name of "Chen Bochui International Children's Literature Award" and "Chen Bochui Children's Literature Award" without authorization. In addition, in order to cooperate with the awards and promotion activities, the Council of the International Children's Literature Awards of Chen Bochui has the right to cite the contents of the participating works such as text, illustrations, etc. as publicity awards and related exhibition promotion activities of the Shanghai International Children's Book Fair in China.

2. All submitted samples will not be refunded.

3. Chen Bochui International Children's Literature Prize Council has the right of final interpretation of this activity.

This year's awards will be announced and the award ceremony will be held before the opening of the Shanghai International Children's Book Fair in November 2021. I hope that the majority of children's literature writers and relevant publishing houses and newspapers and periodicals will actively participate in this year's selection.

About Chen Bochui

Chen Bochui (1906-1997), whose original name was Chen Ruxi, used the pen name Xia Lei. A native of Baoshan District, Shanghai (formerly Baoshan County, Jiangsu Province). He is a famous Chinese children's literature writer, translator, publisher and educator. He dedicated his life to the cause of children's literature, and is a generation of masters of Chinese children's literature and enjoys a very high reputation at home and abroad. With the concept of "writing big literature for children", he is engaged in the creation, translation and theoretical research of children's literature, and has authored the fairy tale collection "A Cat That Wants to Fly", the review collection "A Brief Introduction to Children's Literature" and so on. In 1981, he founded the Chen Bochui Children's Literature Award to encourage domestic writers to participate in the creation of children's literature.
