Tan Sitong, zi fusheng, trumpet Zhuangfei, a native of Liuyang County, Changsha Province, Hunan Province, born in Shuntianfu, is a famous politician, thinker, and reformist figure in modern China.

On April 17, 1895, China and Japan signed the Treaty of Maguan, when Tan Sitong heard about it, he was full of sorrow and anger, and tried to advocate new learning and call for a change of law.

In 1896, Tan Sitong became acquainted with Liang Qichao and others, after which the Guangxu Emperor summoned the Restoration Faction to discuss the change of law.
