According to the competition requirements of the 16th Provincial Games, there are 41 major events in the competitive sports group, and Qingyuan will host 25 major events in the competitive sports group and 10 major events in the mass sports group, and 17 new competition venues and 14 maintenance and renovation of a total of 31 competition venues. Among them, the construction of Qingyuan Sports Center began on September 28, 2019, which is the main venue of the 16th Guangdong Provincial Games in 2022, consisting of a 30,000-seat stadium, a 9,000-seat gymnasium and a 2,000-seat swimming pool. Up to now, the roof steel structure capping and civil engineering of the three major competition venues such as the stadium, gymnasium and swimming pool of Qingyuan Sports Center have all been completed, and the entire project is expected to be completed in early 2022, and will be officially put into use after acceptance. The construction and renovation projects of the gymnasiums of the seven colleges and universities in the provincial vocational education city and the sports venues of each county (city, district) are gradually advancing according to the construction schedule, and it is expected to be completed by March 2022.
According to the goal of the delegation's competitive sports group determined by the Qingyuan Municipal Party Committee and the Municipal Government, it has been determined that the Qingyuan Municipal Delegation's competitive sports group will participate in 33 competitions. The formation of the preparation team of each project has been completed, and in the youth championships in the past two years, the scale of participation and the level of competition have been significantly improved, and the preparation for the provincial games has achieved phased results.
