According to the organizing committee of the 8th "Tomorrow Sculpture Award", this year's awards will be widely solicited from August 1 to September 30, 2020 in the whole country (mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau) and overseas regions. After two months, nearly 300 artists from China, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, Norway, Denmark and other countries and regions received applications, with a total of more than 600 works. In the form of blind evaluation, after 3 rounds of evaluation by 11 preliminary judges, 20 artists were selected, and 50 group works were shortlisted for this year's final exhibition.
On the evening of December 10, the 8th "Tomorrow Sculpture Award" in 2020 held an art rising star speech show and award ceremony in the multi-functional hall of Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts. The five final judges, Sui Jianguo, Sun Zhenhua, Ji Shaofeng, Jiao Xingtao and Xiang Li, attended the scene and listened to their creative insights together with guests, artists, more than 150 students and online audiences. In the end, the winner of the 8th "Tomorrow Sculpture Award" annual award in 2020 was Zhi Min, and the other four award-winning artists were Li Linlin, Kang Jing, Tang Chenkai, and Impedance Matching q-factor (members: Chen Qi, He Chunyi, Liang Yinglin, Yan Yipeng and Zhang Baotian). Zhi Min, who won this year's annual award, was born in 1975 and is currently the executive vice president of the Sculpture Institute of the China Academy of Arts and a doctoral supervisor. His current exhibition is called "Hongmeng". This work uses the construction principle of the Chinese character "Yongzi Eight Laws" to construct a structure that can be infinitely copied and reconstructed, echoing the principle of reconstruction and combination of Chinese culture. This cultural principle can be seen in Cultural Carriers such as Chinese characters and Chinese brick and wood architecture. At the same time, each monomer in "Hongmeng" is based on the "benzene ring" structure in modern medical protein research, and Zhi Min said that he hopes to symbolize the materiality of the origin of life.
