"When Happiness Knocks": At the age of struggle, choose comfort, life is destined to be sad

When I was a student, I studied an American poet, Robert Frost's philosophical poem "The Road Not Taken" ("The Road Not Taken").

The description is that the author himself stands at a crossroads and chooses a sparsely populated, thorny road, but after making a choice, he regrets that he did not choose another path.

Then, I realized that fish and bear paws cannot be combined, and finally said that life is like a road to go, and I chose to go on firmly.

"Don't let people tell you that you can't be talented, not even I can't," is what Father Chris Gardner says to his son in When Happiness Knocks.

Middle-aged Chris invested in a number of bone density scanners, but due to the Great Depression, he could not sell his products at all, and his overwhelmed wife left him, and he could only take his son to the street with his son when he could not pay the rent.

In order to give his son a stable living environment, he had to find a new source of income, and without a diploma, he chose very little, and finally faced with a very demanding internship opportunity for securities managers, he decided to try.

This six-month internship is unpaid.

Carrying 20 kilograms of equipment a day, Chris takes his son through repeated failures and despair in dilapidated apartments, motels, public toilets and church shelters, looking for a sheltered roof for his son.

The most desperate time was when he sold an instrument to improve his and his son's situation, but because he had overdue taxes, he was emptied by the tax bureau before him after receiving the payment.

However, he knew that entering the securities brokerage company was the only way for him and his son to be happy, so no matter how difficult it was, he persevered.

Before Chris finished his internship, every shot on the street was running, either chasing people, being chased, or in a hurry.

So after countless blows, when he was told that he was hired, the shot where he walked into the crowd with a smile on his face, every frame was expressing:

Success is not easy to come by, many people have done their best for their dreams, and how much persistence behind each one is invisible to others.

When you complain that the timing is not right, the environment is not right, or even the conditions are not right, many people have taken steps for their dreams, and in order to reach their destination, they are struggling to move forward.

As the movie says:

"If you have a dream, defend it."

Many times we will measure many factors before doing one thing, hesitate between doing and not doing, instead of wasting time and hesitation, it is better to push ourselves and take the first step.

Like Rick's dad, who in 33 years has never stopped using a special wheelchair, pushing the paralyzed to participate in more than 1,000 sports events, including 81 marathons, more than 6,000 kilometers, and 206 triathlons.

Rick was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at birth due to a lack of oxygen in the brain due to an umbilical cord wrapped around his neck, and doctors said that his existence was equivalent to a vegetative state, and it was impossible to recover in this life.

Fortunately, Rick, who was sentenced to death by fate at birth, has a pair of parents who love him very much, and they think that their son is thoughtful.

Because his eyes would follow them, they treated Rick like a normal child, took him to play with the sleigh, and personally taught him to learn letters and new knowledge.

When Rick was 10 years old, his parents took him to the engineering department at Tufts University to convince the technicians to tell jokes to Rick, and after Rick laughed, the technicians decided to design an interactive computer for him.

When he got home, Rick used the computer to say his first words in 10 years: "Come on, Boston Bears (hockey team)", and the whole family learned that Rick was a sports-loving child.

When he was 15 years old, Rick used his computer to tell his father that he wanted to go on a charity run and raise money for athletes who were accidentally paralyzed in a traffic accident.

The father, who had never participated in a long-distance run, agreed to his son's request, pushed Rick in a wheelchair, and ran the 8-kilometer long run with the penultimate result.

Although my body hurt for two weeks after running, because my son happily typed it on the computer:

"Dad, for the first time I didn't feel like I was disabled."

He decided to keep running with his son, which he did for 33 years, and in addition to running, he also had cycling, swimming, climbing, skiing and any other sport that Rick liked.

If Rick can participate in triathlon, then we who are able-bodied can do whatever we want.

As Rick's father said to him:

"We've been inspiring all the people in the world through our own stories, and if we can do it, you can do it."

Cai Kangyong also said:

"The saddest thing in life is to choose comfort at the age of struggle."

Sometimes, we use a lot of excuses to fill our heads, so that we can choose to avoid the struggle with peace of mind.

But every path to success is full of tests.

"When Happiness Knocks": At the age of struggle, choose comfort, life is destined to be sad

No one's success is readily available, and only by solving one difficulty and obstacle after another can we stand at the end of victory.

So, don't be intimidated by the thorny road, as long as it is the road to success, we should all be brave to set out for the destination.
