According to the news released on the official website of the China Foreign Affairs University on August 20, Xu Jian, former vice president of the China Academy of International Studies, served as the dean of the China Foreign Affairs University. Xu Jian, born in June 1962, his ancestral home is Pi County, Jiangsu Province, Han ethnicity, member of the Communist Party of China, doctor of international relations.

According to the official website of the China Foreign Affairs University, Xu Jian studied history at Beijing Normal University (bachelor's degree), Beijing Normal University (master's degree), sussex University international relations (master's degree), Bristol University international relations (doctoral degree).

From 1993 to 1999, Xu Jian served as an assistant researcher and associate researcher of the former China Research Center for International Studies of the State Council, successively served as an associate researcher, researcher and director of the Comprehensive Research Office of the China Institute of International Studies, deputy director of the China Institute of International Studies, counselor of the Permanent Mission of China to the United Nations, minister counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Russia, director and researcher of the Academic Committee of the China Institute of International Studies, vice president of the China Institute of International Studies, and deputy secretary of the party committee.
