According to the photographer, Toyozumi, he and Hezhaonan were hunting birds by the Laimao River that morning (a kind of industry term for photography enthusiasts to photograph birds), when they suddenly saw a big bird in the sky. "This big bird has a pair of huge wings, which are particularly eye-catching in the sun, and I quickly clicked on the shutter to record the healthy figure of the big bird, which really has the feeling of a roc spreading its wings."

Feng Quansheng introduced that this big bird circled in the sky for a while, and finally settled on a tree to rest. "The big bird looks a lot like an owl, but what is distinctly different from the owl is that the crown at the top of its head is cocked to the sides, and from a distance it looks like wearing an official hat and a pair of long eyebrows." Feng Quansheng said that they had never seen such a bird in Lushui before, and in order to find out the identity of this big bird, they took a good photo to the Lushui Management and Protection Bureau of Gaoligong Mountain National Nature Reserve. "According to the identification of experts, the scientific name of this big bird is the forest eagle owl, which belongs to the national second-level protected animal."

Forest eagle owl (scientific name: bubo nipalensis) is a species of the Owl family, a large owl with a body length of about 63 cm. It is similar in appearance to the eagle owl, but is small in size, and the ear tufts on the head are prominent, black and white. The upper body is dark brown with yellowish-white transverse spots; the lower body skin is yellow and the middle of the abdomen is white; and there are dark brown transverse spots on the throat and chest. The mouth is yellow and the iris is brown. The number is extremely rare, it has been listed in the list of world endangered birds n and the list of wild animals under national key protection in China, and belongs to the chinese national second-level protected birds, which is a single species and no subspecies. It is found only in Ya'an, Baoxing, Huidong, Sichuan and the estuary of southeastern Yunnan. It inhabits evergreen broad-leaved forests below 3000 m above sea level, is often solitary, nocturnal, and usually hides in dense foliage during the day, and only begins to move and forage at dusk. When they are particularly hungry, they sometimes come out to hunt during the day. When hunting, it is often along the open area of the forest edge, the forest edge, the bamboo bush or near the riverbank, feeding on small and medium-sized vertebrates such as pheasants, hares, rats, lizards, snakes, peacocks, jackals, and young deer, and can also hunt larger animals like a class, and even hunt fishing.

According to a scientific and technological personnel of the Lushui Management and Protection Bureau, in people's impressions, the "members" under the owl order uniformly have owl-like "faces", and Lin Carved Owl is no exception. But the difference is that the Lin Eagle Owl also has a pair of long "eyebrows", and its shape is very similar to the white-browed eagle king in Jin Yong's novel "The Book of the Dragon Slaughtering in the Heavens". Unlike the white-browed Eagle King's all-white eyebrows, the "eyebrows" of the Lin Eagle Owl are more beautiful in color, gray and regularly distributed with white patterns.

"The appearance of the forest eagle owl in the Lushui section of the reserve shows that the ecological environment of Lushui continues to improve." The person in charge of the Nujiang Prefecture Forestry and Grassland Bureau said that in recent years, Nujiang Prefecture has vigorously practiced the development concept of "green water and green mountains are golden mountains and silver mountains", and has made every effort to promote the return of farmland to forests and grasslands to lakes, so that the forest coverage rate of the whole prefecture ranks in the forefront of the country.
