Jiangnan Province was a province set up after the Qing army occupied Nanjing in the second year of Shunzhi and renamed Nanjing to Jiangning. The jurisdiction area is now Jiangsu, Anhui, Zhejiang, Fujian, Jiangxi, Hunan and other provinces. By the time of the preparation of the Jiangnan Mint in the twenty-second year of Guangxu (1896), Jiangnan Province had long ceased to exist, and when the silver coins minted by Jiangnan Province circulated in the market, the establishment of Jiangnan Province had disappeared for more than two hundred years, so it was the only silver coin in the history of China's currency that had the name of a province but no actual province. Because it is different from the famous copper dollar made in Jiangsu Province, the name of the silver coin is "Made in Jiangnan Province".
The old Jiangnan Silver Circle was minted at the beginning of the jiangnan mint in Nanjing, and the full name of the factory was "Jiangnan Minting Silver CoinAge General Bureau". In the 22nd year of Guangxu (1896), jiangnan mint ordered a full set of equipment from the Heydon Mint in Birmingham, England, planning to produce 100,000 silver yuan per day, make 1 million coins, and complete the construction of the factory within six months. Jiangnan Mint is divided into east and west factories, the east factory manufactures silver yuan, the west factory specializes in making money, Guangxu twenty-three years (1897) officially opened. Among the many years of Jiangnan Dragon Silver, the old Jiangnan version is the most favored. The biggest difference between this version of the silver circle and the later creations is that there is no dry branch chronology on the front and an outer ring on the back.
The front center of this coin is the word "Guangxu Yuanbao" in the middle of the front, and there are two Manchu characters in the middle of the four characters, and the coin is also minted with the inscription "Made in Jiangnan Province" above the coin, and the lower part is "Ten Texts per Yuan", and the bead circle of the word "Guangxu Yuanbao" is surrounded by ninety-nine small dots. The reverse of the coin is engraved with a flying dragon, and the text above it is composed of English, and there is a rose on the left and right sides as an ornament. Jiangnan Province's Guangxu Yuanbao Yiwei is ten copper yuan, which not only has a high artistic appreciation value, but also has immeasurable collection value.
