The Hong Kong Police Force today (2 February) held a highest honour funeral for Admiralty Inspector Lam Wan-yee, which was held at the Hung Hom World Funeral Home.

In the middle of the spiritual hall, there are posthumous photos of Lin Wanyi wearing uniforms, the horizontal plaque reads "Forever Remembered", and the inside and outside of the spiritual hall are filled with wreaths sent by all walks of life. Hong Kong SAR Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, Commissioner of Police Siu Tak-yi, Secretary for Security Tang Ping-keung and other senior officials of the HKSAR Government, as well as a number of Police representatives, attended the scene.

The Force announced the funeral arrangements yesterday (1st) and today will hold the highest honor funeral ceremony at the World Funeral Home in Hung Hom, Kowloon and Ho Ho Shek Ho Garden in two parts, and the traditional ceremony will be held at 9:30 a.m. at the Funeral Home Chapel, and after the ceremony, the Force funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. in the Spirit Hall and outside the Funeral Home. After the funeral at the World Funeral Home, the funeral procession departed at about 11:00 a.m. to conduct a road festival at the headquarters of the Marine Police Sub-district of the Shipyard Dockyard of the Shipyard of the Aung Chuan Chau Government where Lin Wanyi was stationed before her death, and then to hold a burial ceremony at Ho Shek Ho Garden. The burial ceremony was held at approximately 12:15 p.m. in Haoyuan.
Some citizens mourned outside the funeral home, and some citizens who made a special trip from Tuen Mun to Hung Hom said that they felt that Lam Wan-yi was very brave and lost her life working for the citizens, and hoped to come to the scene to pay her a final tribute. The retired police officer, who had worked with Lin Wanyi, said that he was very sad about his death, and because there were too many people in the spiritual hall, he could not enter, so he had to go outside, watch the convoy leave, and then return to Haoyuan to worship in the future.
Former Senior Marine Police Inspector Lam Wan-yee fell into the sea on 25 September while chasing smuggled speedboats around Tuen Mun Sha Chau, and on 29 October the Police issued an internal personnel circular stating that Commissioner of Police, Siu Tak Yee, had conferred the honorary title of Chief Inspector (posthumously) on Lam Wan-yee in recognition of her exemplary service and selfless dedication during the performance of her policing duties, and that Lam Wan-yee had died heroically in the line of duty in the performance of her duties, fully demonstrating all the noble character of police officers and indeed fulfilling the oath she took when she joined the Force.
Married for two years and with no children, Lam joined the Force in 2007 as a police officer, initially as a uniformed police officer stationed in the Tuen Mun Police District and later transferred to the Tuen Mun District Criminal Investigation Team. Lin Wanyi, who came from the "red pants", dared to work hard and worked hard, and was promoted to inspector three years later, and then transferred to the marine police in 2015 because she liked the work of the marine police, and then joined the dinghy team last year. He has 14 years of experience in policing at the age of 37.
At about 8:00 a.m. on September 25, during the anti-smuggling mission in the area near the sandbank of Longgu Chau in Tuen Mun, when the then senior inspector Lin Wanyi and her comrades-in-arms were driving a interception boat to chase and intercept a smuggling speedboat, at the boundary with the inland waters, the smuggling speedboat suddenly changed its line and overturned the interception boat, and 4 police officers on the boat fell into the sea and were trapped at the bottom of the boat, two of them swam on the surface of the water by themselves after struggling, and the other police officer was rescued by the comrades who rushed to the scene, but Lin Wanyi unfortunately died heroically.
According to reports, on October 1 and 2, the Guangzhou Municipal Public Security Organs, together with the Yangjiang Municipal Public Security Organs, successively arrested Deng Moubiao, Deng Mouqiao and other suspects involved in the case.
Hong Kong Secretary for Security Tang Ping-keung said at a Meeting of the Legislative Council on October 20 that the Government deeply regretted and angered some people posting online mocking police officers in the line of duty and songs containing hate against the police, and condemned the cold-blooded remarks. He said that 8 disciplined force personnel had been suspended for making inappropriate remarks related to the incident, and the Hong Kong police would investigate from the criminal direction, and if there was sufficient evidence, they would arrest and prosecute, and the personnel involved would also face internal disciplinary investigation.
