The 2021 Shanghai Urban Space Art Season Hongkou District Community Sample Exhibition "Duolun Road Symbiosis" recently opened at the Shanghai Duolun Museum of Modern Art.
The exhibition is sponsored by the People's Government of Hongkou District, organized by the Hongkou District Planning and Natural Resources Bureau, the Hongkou District Culture and Tourism Bureau, the North Sichuan Road Street, the Shanghai Long-term Culture Group, and co-organized by the Shanghai Duolun Museum of Modern Art and the Four Memorial Halls of the Communist Party of China.
"Duolun Road Symbiosis" focuses on the concept of community empowerment and community building, and conducts social curation through three clues of "Project+ Show Display + Activity". The exhibition presents a number of community micro-renewal projects and cases such as Dongzhao Xiaoting, Li Bai Martyr's Former Residence, Hengfengli, Woodcut Training Institute, shanghai Duolun Museum of Modern Art's art intervention in community practice "Walking Duolun" plan, and "Sound Fragments Aoustic Fragments · 15" recording series, fully interpreting the social relationship between man and community, production and nature, public and common.
Zeng Yulan, director of Shanghai Duolun Museum of Modern Art, said that she hopes to let more people understand the past, present and future of Duolun Road through the medium of art. "At present, so many artists, institutions and the public have projected their eyes to the ecological and historical accumulation of Duolun Road, and I believe that on the road of art intervention in the community, they will go further and generate greater energy."
This exhibition is a diversified interpretation of the 2021 Shanghai Urban Space Art Season in Hongkou District. Su Hang, curator of "Duolun Road Symbiosis", introduced that the exhibition is divided into three parts: the first part is the excellent urban micro-renewal project created, co-built and co-governed by the government, the community, the street, and the residents in Hongkou District; the second part is "Walking Duolun", which shows a series of participatory projects of Shanghai Duolun Museum of Modern Art in recent years in combination with art exhibitions and public education activities; the third part is "Sound Fragments", inviting two artists to take Duolun Museum of Modern Art as the center. Create sounds and images for everyday spaces within a 15-minute walk of the community living circle. "What the exhibition presents is not only the story shown in the art museum, but also the bits and pieces that take place in the daily life of the community." Su Hang believes that as a curator, we should pay more attention to how to guide the public to read spontaneously and understand the cities, communities, and our projects that they live in, which is also an important goal of this exhibition.
"As an unadorned way of conveying information, the sound of the city is one of the most intuitive feelings of the city, and listening to the city is a way to obtain a more complete image of the city." Sound artist Sun Qifang introduced the "Sound Fragments" artwork. This exhibition presents a total of 7 "sound fragments", and the sound background comes from the lives of residents. "Starting from listening and recording, everyone can understand the city of Shanghai audibly, listen to the 'background music' that happens all the time but is often overlooked, and stand in a more macroscopic perspective to understand the city and understand people."
Yiman Li, director of the non-fiction writing platform "Sandwich", introduced the "Duolun Mirror Reflection of Duolun" non-fiction writing workshop that accompanied the "Duolun Road Symbiosis" exhibition. The workshops are four theme workshops and one theme exhibition, namely "Hongkou Memory", "Re-encountering Lu Xun in Time and Space", "Duolun Street Story Catcher", and "Duolun Mirror Art Co-creation". As soon as the event was released, it attracted a large number of residents to sign up, far more than the original plan of twenty people. The workshop uses writing as a channel of expression, and together with this exhibition, excavates the daily life of Duolun Road, captures the moving details of life that are easily overlooked, and reconstructs the real-time neighborhood story with words.
The organizers said that the "Duolun Road Symbiosis" exhibition is the result of a multi-dimensional discussion of Shanghai under the 15-minute community life circle under the broader urban cultural framework, a vivid presentation of the close relationship between residents' daily lives and the current urban and cultural development, and an important practice of conveying the ideal community vision to the public and intervening art in the community. "It is hoped that through this exhibition, the spirit of the community can be stimulated to coexist and promote the production and exchange of local knowledge."
According to reports, the "Symbiosis" academic forum series and the "Duolun Mirror Reflection of Duolun" writing workshop series will be held at the same time as the exhibition.
