The ancestor of the word, Cangjie

author:Read the rivers and lakes alone

The ancestors of the Shihuangcang Jie clan were also the northern branch of the Furen clan, and their clan was mainly active in the Early Weishui (present-day Wei river flowing through Shaanxi) basin.

Cangjie's mother was a female leader of the Shi Huang clan. Legend has it that Shi Huangshi felt the aura of heaven and earth and gave birth to Cangjie. Cangjie was "born to be able to write", and later became a master of creating writing, and was respected by posterity as the "ancestor" of writing.

Because cangjie was clever and resourceful from an early age, he was elected as a grand chief by his clan as an adult. At that time, during the reign of Jiang Ming, the fourth emperor of the Yandi Shennong clan, Cangjie believed that he was the only one who dominated one side and did not need to obey others as emperors, so he refused to worship Emperor Yan, and led his people to the east, occupying a large area of land north of the Yellow River east of the Taihang Mountains, and immediately established himself as emperor, with the name Cangjie clan and the capital at Yangwu (southeast of present-day Yuanyang County, Xinxiang City, Henan).

Shi Huangcang's reign lasted for five emperors and passed on the kingdom for 110 years (4637 BC 4528 BC).

In 4528 BC, the Xuanyuan clan in the north expanded outwards and invaded the territory ruled by the Cangjie clan, and Cangjie V was unable to resist and led his people to surrender to the Xuanyuan clan. He immediately went to the emperor and promised to donate grain and treasure to the Xuanyuan clan every year. Later, the Xuanyuan clan was proclaimed emperor and established the Yellow Emperor Xuanyuan clan regime, and the descendants of the Cangjie clan were appointed by the Yellow Emperor as canonical historians, responsible for recording and sorting out historical texts.

Due to the lack of historical materials, this volume only contains a short biography of the first emperor, Emperor Cangjie.

The ancestor of the word, Cangjie

Shi Huang's Cangjie, male, surname Wind, (a surname Hou Gang), the name Jie, because of its title of Emperor Cangdi, so also known as Cangjie. Legend has it that he had four eyes, so people also called him four-eyed Cangjie. He was the first emperor of the Shi Huangcang Jie clan regime during the Chinese clan alliance era.

Cangjie was born in the twenty-sixth year of the reign of Emperor Shennong of the Yandi Shennong clan (Yihai, 4666 BC), his paternal line was Fuxi clan, and his maternal line was Shi Huangshi. Cangjie's mother was a female leader of the Shi Huang tribe, named Hou Gang, whose ancestor was a descendant of Fuxi Nuwa and whose ancestor was the Furen Yezi clan.

Hou Gang of the Shi Huang clan felt the aura of heaven and earth, and was born in Luoshui Yayi (present-day southeast of Baishui County, Weinan City, Shaanxi). Cangjie was smart and studious from an early age, and his mother loved him very much and cared for him in every way.

The history books say: "Cangjie saw the traces of birds and beasts, and the body was pictographic and made characters." (General Examination of the Outer Chronicles)

It is also said: "Shi Huang (another name for Cangjie) produced and could write" (Beitang Shuqian, vol. 7, quoted "Sui Nest Zi").

The history books clearly tell people that Cangjie was a natural prodigy, and he was born to know it, so he invented writing.

In fact, this is just a blind worship of Cangjie by the ancients, and after experiencing the hype of generations of literati and historians, Cangjie has become the ancestor of the invention of Chinese characters. In fact, the history of Chinese writing was born thousands of years before Cangjie.

In the distant primitive times of antiquity, the ancestors of humans were as languageless as other animals. Communication with each other is expressed only by the movements of the hands and the body. The earliest language of human ancestors (ape-like) was monophonic exclamations, such as "ah", "ah", "wow", "ha", etc., which then developed into two-tone words, and later after millions of years of evolution and development, there was no primary human language until the late Chao era (about 100,000 years ago).

By the time of the Lingren clan, human languages were already quite abundant. But at this time there was no writing, and if there was anything important to remember, it could only be remembered by placing stones, which we called "rock piles".

The method of "stone stacking" is to represent different things in terms of the size, number, and method and location of the stones. This approach is cumbersome, unmanageable, and easily broken. Later, the weaver girl of the Flintstones invented the technique of rope rubbing, and then invented the "Knotted Rope Chronicle".

The ancestor of the word, Cangjie

The "knotted rope note" is a thin rope made of soft and tough bark, and then dozens of thin ropes are arranged neatly and hung in one place, and the knotted note is tied on the top. Big things tie big knots, small things tie small knots, what happens first hits inside, and what happens later hits outside. In order to be able to record more things, the weaver girl also used the natural color of the plant to dye the string into various colors, and each color represented a type of thing, so that the memorization was clearer. Because the "knotted rope note" is more convenient and easier to preserve, it replaces the "pile stone note".

In the late Lingren clan (about 10,000 BC), the Lingren clan invented the earliest "symbolic script".

"Symbol text" was originally mainly composed of "○", "meter" three symbols, its invention originated from the "knot rope note" of the big knot and small knot, initially some people felt that the knot rope note trouble, they put the knot rope note "knot" with the symbol carved on the stone, the big knot with "○" to represent, the small knot with "∆" to represent, the overlapping knot with "meter" to represent. It has been found that this method of memorization is more clever than knotted rope memorization, which avoids unfavorable factors such as "knotted rope memories" that are easy to burn and rot, and can be preserved permanently. So people gradually changed to "symbol inscription" to replace "knotted rope note", and successively invented dozens of different symbols to replace different things, this symbol is the original script of China's ancient times.

Ancient symbolic writing has lasted for about 5,000 years in Chinese history, and the cultural records of early ancient times are basically recorded in symbolic writing. In ancient times, there were officials who specialized in recording history, such as shangzhu shi, dadian clan, and Shaodian clan, all of which were before the Yellow Emperor's regime. It can be seen that the history of Chinese civilization did not begin with the Yellow Emperor as Sima Qian said, but Sima Qian inherited Confucius's concept of "great unification" and artificially transformed Chinese history.

Although the symbolic script has a history of thousands of years, it is a cryptographic script that can only be circulated among a small number of people, and outsiders cannot decipher it at all, so it is difficult to popularize. So the folk invented picture text, with a simple picture to express specific things, such as painting a mountain shape to represent "mountain", drawing several water waves to represent "water", drawing a circle to represent "sun", drawing half a circle to represent "moon", etc., this kind of text can be mastered without special learning and memory, and is well received by the public.

Cangjie's merit lies in his extensive collection of folk pictorial texts to organize and create systematic hieroglyphs. The history books say: "Emperor Shi Huang of Cang, name Jie, surname Hou Gang was born and could write. And by the river catalogue, so the change of the poor heaven and earth, looking up at the trend of the Kuixing circle, looking down at the turtle pattern Toba Yamakawa finger palm and creating the text. The sky is rain, the ghosts are crying for the night, and the dragon is hidden. (Huang's Yishu Examination series "Spring and Autumn YuanMing Bud").

The ancient text "Hetu Jade Edition" also contains an article that says: "Cangjie is the emperor's southern tour, stepping on the mountain of the void of yang, and approaching the water of Yuan HuLuo. The Spirit Turtle Negative Book, Danjia Qingwen to teach it. "Luowei is in the territory of present-day Luoning County, Luoyang City, and in the northwest of Xinghua Township, present-day Luoning County, there is still a Cangjie Zitai, which was built by later generations to commemorate the Cangjie Emperor.

The ancestor of the word, Cangjie

Regarding the "River Map and Book of Luo", there are many ancient historical records, most of which were forged by the founding kings of the Xia, Shang, and Zhou dynasties under the pretext of the Mandate of Heaven. The Book of Luo seen by Cangjie should be the original Book of Luo created by the Flintstones. Its book consists entirely of the ancient script symbols "○" and "●". "○" represents heaven and yang; "●" represents earth and is yin. The book is a simple symbol that dissolves astronomy, geography, mathematics, and metaphysics into one, with rich connotations and unfathomable depths.

Cangjie was a very intelligent man, who conducted in-depth research based on the symbolic script on the Book of Luo, absorbed some of the pictorial characters collected from the people, and thus created a unique hieroglyph, and used hieroglyphs as the orthodox script of his own clan.

When Jiang Ming, the fourth emperor of the Yan Emperor Shennong Clan, heard this, he was very annoyed and thought that he had disobeyed his ancestors and rebelled, so he sent an army to conquest.

Cangjie was not convinced, and personally led his own clan to meet the battle, defeating the army of the Yandi Shennong clan. Cangjie then led his clan to counterattack, marching eastward, capturing parts north of the Yellow River (present-day northern Henan), and immediately taking Yangwu (southeast of present-day Yuanyang County, Xinxiang City, Henan) as the capital, and established himself as emperor, called Emperor Cang. Take the year of Jiachen (4637 BC) as the first year of Emperor Cang.

Cangjie was proclaimed emperor at the age of thirty, reigned for forty-two years, and died in the forty-second year of Cangjie (4596 BC) at the age of seventy-one. After his death, his body was buried in Pudi (in present-day Northwest of LiangCun, Nanle County, Puyang City, Henan), with the honorific title of Emperor Cang.

After Cangjie's death, he passed on four more emperors.

In the twelfth year of the Yan Emperor Shennong's YuYi clan (癸巳, 4582 BC), the Xuanyuan clan in the north invaded the territory ruled by the Cangjie clan, and Cangjie V was defeated and led his people to surrender to the Xuanyuan clan. He immediately went to the emperor and promised to donate grain and treasure to the Xuanyuan clan every year.
