author:Red Star News

Are you afraid of spiders? If it was a super mini spider smaller than a grain of rice, would you find it a little cute?

Just today (May 3), Zhao Li, director of the Huaxi Entomological Museum, photographed a rare spider in a depression in a rock wall in Qingcheng Mountain, the "Bell Nest Bell Spider" (also known as the Zhong Chao Xi Spider) of the genus Bulbophyllum Koxi.

Zhao Li told Red Star News that the spider was only discovered in China in 1990, and there are not many records about them, only the initial discovery papers can be found. In past records, the spiders were usually only distributed in Zhejiang, Hubei and Guizhou, and were first seen in Sichuan.

"In fact, I discovered their existence as early as last year, but I didn't know who the residents of this stone nest lived at that time." A few days ago, I occasionally saw it when I flipped through the data, and today I returned to shoot it, and I actually photographed it! Zhao Li told red star news reporters that this spider is very small, and it is only a large female found today.

In the photograph displayed by Zhao Li, the bell nest bell spider hangs at the lower end of a lump of gravel, and these sticking gravel balls are their nests. Almost all of the places where Zhao Li found them were located in depressions in the rock walls.

"How spiders of such a small size collect small gravel blocks that are very heavy for them, and then make them into a nest and hang them, this delicate mode of operation is worth looking into." Zhao Li likens these cute little guys to building a nest as "as if they were specially built in a scenic place to hang in the air holiday villas." ”

They can be clearly seen peeling

Through the photographs taken, Zhao Li first found that the skin of this type of spider hung under the stone nest, transparent and intact, which Zhao Li believed proved that the molting of the bell nest bell spider was carried out outside the nest. "It's an interesting life record that hasn't been observed in the past."

At the same time, Zhao Li estimated that this spider should live in the nest during the day and come out at night to forage for food. But exactly how it captures food remains to be seen.
