Organized by dwm GmbH in Germany and co-supervised by the International Grape and Wine Organisation (OIV), the International Federation of Wine Competitions (VINOFED), the International Winemakers Association (UIOE), the Berlin Wine Grand Prix is one of the most rigorously constrained competitions in the world. The competition is divided into two winter and summer races every year, and now there are more than 17,000 wines from more than 40 countries participating in the competition every year, and more than 400 international wine experts who are strictly selected to taste the participating wines! A total of more than 6,000 wines from all over the world participated in the Competition, and the judges of the Competition were composed of 168 professionals from various fields in the wine industry, including world wine masters (MW), world-renowned wine merchants and retailers.
Because the competition is regulated by OIV, so it is necessary to strictly comply with the requirements and rules of the OIV, one of the most representative of which is that each judge is not allowed to taste more than 49 participating wines per day, and this year, in the context of the global epidemic situation is still severe, the organizers and organizing committees of the Berlin Wine Competition still insist on strictly ensuring the fairness and authority of the competition while doing a good job in epidemic prevention requirements, so the competition time has also been extended from the original 4 days to 11 days.
Berlin Wine Grand Prix Summer 2021 (October 7 to October 17, 2021 Berlin, Germany)
The Berlin Wine Grand Prix is one of the world's top five international wine competitions and the first international wine competition under the supervision of OIV. According to the strict rules of the OIV, the total number of wines awarded in the competition shall not exceed 30% of the total number of wines in the competition. This 30% of the winning wines represents a true honour and a solemn commitment to consumers by the OIV and the Berlin Wine Grand Prix on the quality of wines.
The Berlin Wine Grand Prix has three prizes, the Grand Gold Medal (with a very low winning percentage), the Gold Award and the Silver Award. The winning scoring criteria are Grand Gold 92 points to 100 points, Gold (Gold) 85 points to 91.99 points, Silver (Silver) 82 points to 84.99 points. However, due to the OIV's strict 30% rule, many wines may be eliminated in the secondary screening because of the 30% rule, even if they reach the corresponding award score, under the strict regulations, the participating wines will only increase the chance of winning if they try to get a high score within the corresponding award score range!
The Chinese wines participating in this year's Berlin Wine Grand Prix come from Ningxia, Gansu, Xinjiang, Shandong, Yunnan, Hebei, Sichuan and other wine regions in China, with a total of nearly 200 wines.
The 2018 Hongyun Merlot Dry Red Wine from Gansu/Hongqiao Winery won the Gold Gold Award.
