Jin Zhonghua, a native of Tongxiang, Zhejiang Province, was the editor-in-chief of World Knowledge during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and was the vice mayor of Shanghai. Vice Chairman of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, President and Editor-in-Chief of News Daily, President of China News Service, Vice Chairman of the All-China Journalists Association, Director of the Shanghai Institute of International Studies. He has represented the Chinese press at meetings of the World Peace Council and the International Association of Journalists on many occasions. Persecuted during the Cultural Revolution, he hanged himself in his study on April 3, 1968, at the age of 61. He was rehabilitated in 1978 and his ashes were placed in Shanghai Longhua Cemetery.
