During the war years, soldiers not only faced the threat of death, but those who survived were often afflicted by various diseases. Among the founding generals of our country, there were two people who fell ill for various reasons during the war, causing them to be tormented by headaches for the rest of their lives.
One is Lin Biao, and the other is Su Yu. Su Yu, who had been tormented by headaches for most of his life, did not really understand the real cause of the headache of this revolutionary who had fought for most of his life until his body was cremated after his death.

Su Yu and Lin Biao
How did General Su Yu fall into the root of the headache? What did people find from the remains of General Su Yu? What kind of trouble did the headache bring to General Su Yu?
Among the founding generals, when it comes to poor health, people often think of Lin Biao and Su Yu, and both of them are also disturbed by headaches.
According to the records of the staff at that time, when Lin Biao had a headache, he had no choice but to rub his head hard with a towel, while Su Yu chose to constantly use cold water to relieve the pain.
These two tiger generals, who had killed countless enemies on the battlefield, looked helpless in the face of headaches. The reason why Lin Biao had a headache was recorded in history.
During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Lin Biao was inadvertently injured by Yan Xishan's Jin Sui Army, and although he saved his life, he fell ill with a headache. As for why General Su Yu had a headache, no one could give a conclusion at this time.
According to Su Yu's wife's description, although Su Yu usually does not look unusual, once the headache starts, it is like changing a person.
Su Yu and his wife
According to him, every headache was like having thousands of needles in his head. Because of the headache, many of Su Yu's work was delayed.
In 1950, the Korean War broke out, and not long after, U.S.-led United Nations forces grossly interfered on the Korean Peninsula. The Korean People's Army, which was attacked by surprise, was unable to defeat the army for a while, and was gradually defeated and retreated, and the US military directly pursued and killed all the way to the Yalu River, and even sent an air force to bomb the northeast region of our country.
For the sake of the security and future of New China, China's party and state leaders decided to form a volunteer army to fight in Korea to resist us aggression and aid Korea and defend New China. Although the decision was made, the selection of the commander of the volunteer army was not decided for a long time.
Although we know that it was Later That Mr. Peng led the army to win this battle of founding a country with a huge gap in strength, At that time, Mr. Peng was presiding over the work in the Great Northwest, and the central authorities also had other work arrangements for Mr. Peng at that time.
Therefore, the first volunteer commander of the Central Committee at that time was Selected as General Su Yu. Because Su Yu often fought strange battles on the battlefield and also had experience in commanding large corps of fighters, most people felt that General Su Yu was the perfect candidate.
After many considerations, Chairman Mao decided to make General Su Yu the commander and lead the volunteer army to the Korean battlefield. However, at this time, General Su Yu was suffering from headaches, not to mention leading troops to fight on the harsh conditions of the Korean Peninsula, and even his daily life was extremely affected.
According to relevant records, General Su Yu at that time had a headache so that he could only put the dishes in front of him in a vertical column when he even ate, because when his head turned from side to side, his head would hurt unbearably.
Chairman Mao was also well aware of the harsh situation and hardships on the Korean Peninsula, and seeing that General Su Yu's headache was so serious, he dismissed the idea of letting him lead his troops into battle, and asked Su Yu to put down the work at hand and immediately go to the Soviet Union for inspection.
After arranging the work at hand, the central authorities soon arranged for General Su Yu to go to the Soviet Union for inspection. At that time, the level of medical care in China was very low, and it was difficult to find the cause of General Su Yu's illness, so people pinned their hopes on the Soviet Union, where medical treatment was very developed.
However, when General Su Yu and his party came to the Soviet Union, they were greatly disappointed. Although the Soviet Union at that time had the world's forefront medical level, Soviet doctors could not find out why this senior general from new China had a headache.
If the cause is not found, it is impossible to prescribe the right medicine. General Su Yu and his party also returned to the motherland after a brief recuperation in the Soviet Union.
Back in China, Su Yu had no choice but to drag the sick body to continue working, which was always an unprovoked headache that tormented the founding general of the republic for fifty-four years, and the real cause of this headache was only truly known to the world after the body of General Su Yu was cremated.
After General Su Yu's body was cremated in a crematorium, people were very surprised to find three bullet fragments in the final ashes, and no one could imagine that three pieces of shrapnel had stayed in General Su Yu's head for more than half a century. The origin of these three pieces of shrapnel can also be traced back to the period of the Great Revolution.
Speaking of these three pieces of shrapnel, we must first talk about the Battle of Wuping. The Battle of Wuping took place in October 1927, not long after the Wuchang Uprising, and the rebel troops were ambushed by Kuomintang reactionary forces during the transfer process.
At that time, Su Yu was only a guard squad leader in the rebel army, and after sensing that something was wrong, he volunteered to lead his troops behind the palace to cover the retreat of the large troops.
Facing an enemy dozens of times larger than himself, Su Yu did not fear at all, leading the warriors to repel the enemy's charge again and again. After covering the withdrawal of the large troops, Su Yu encountered a counterattack from the enemy in the process of evacuation.
Su Yu saw that some of his comrades were suppressed by enemy fire, so he turned back to the rescue, and in the face of this rifle, the enemy was actually confused for a while, so he had to order a retreat.
But at this time, misfortune happened, a stray bullet hit Su Yu's right temporal bone, and the brake time was bleeding, and Su Yu also passed out on the spot.
Fortunately, Su Yu did not die, and after not knowing how long he was unconscious, he woke up, and there were not only no enemies or comrades around him, only scattered corpses.
In order to catch up with the large troops, Su Yuqiang endured the pain and crawled on the ground, he climbed up a hillside with difficulty, and then rolled down the hillside, and su Yu, who was seriously injured, fell into the paddy field.
Fortunately, at this time, there were just a few warriors searching for comrades-in-arms passing by, saving Su Yu, who was seriously wounded, and also making it impossible for the later founding generals of the Republic to fall the star so early.
Su Yu, who returned to the large army, soon underwent relevant surgical treatment, but because the medical level of our army at that time was extremely limited and the level of examination was insufficient, although he was left with a life, a small piece of shrapnel was still left in Su Yu's head and was not found.
This is one of General Su Yu's three shrapnel pieces, so when did the other two pieces stay? Next, we have to talk about a battle that can be called the life of Su Yujiu- the Battle of Shuinan. The battle took place more than two years after the Battle of Wuping, in February 1930.
At this time, Su Yu had changed from a guard squad leader to a detachment political commissar of the Red Fourth Army. At that time, Su Yu encountered the Fifteenth Brigade of the Kuomintang reactionaries head-on.
In the face of a tough enemy, Su Yu was not afraid of difficulties, calmly commanded, and took the lead, and the two sides soon fell into a fierce confrontation. Both troops killed red eyes on the narrow battlefield, and Su Yu personally entered the battlefield to fight.
But just as the battle was intensifying, the enemy's artillery suddenly opened fire. A shell landed next to Su Yu, and after a loud noise, Su Yu was blown to the ground on the spot, fell into a coma, and was hit by multiple shrapnel on his body, bleeding like blood.
Because the shell landed very close to Su Yu, Su Yu's head was hit by multiple shrapnel pieces. The surrounding warriors watched Su Yu lying on the ground with his face covered in blood, and hurriedly carried him out of the battlefield, wanting to send him to the rear for rescue.
However, at this time, the battlefield is white-hot, and it is not easy to bring out a wounded person. However, the warriors still gave Su Yu some simple bandaging, but the bandaging cloth could not stop the blood flowing from his head.
Halfway through, Su Yu also woke up once, he endured the pain, and used all his strength to say that the soldiers should return to the battlefield to continue fighting, and he could not drag down the entire army because of him alone.
The severe battlefield situation forced the soldiers to turn around and continue to fight. In the end, the Nationalist 15th Brigade was defeated and retreated first.
At this time, although Su Yu was still unconscious, but he was not dead, the soldiers did not have time to rest, and they carried Su Yu to the field hospital for surgery.
Although the doctor quickly removed the shrapnel from the face, some of the shrapnel was powerless. Because the bomb landed too close, two pieces of shrapnel were directly embedded in Su Yu's skull, and the simple field hospital at that time was simply unable to perform skull surgery for Su Yu, and could only wait and see.
This time, the goddess of fate still took care of Su Yu, and it didn't take long for Su Yu, who was seriously injured, to recover almost completely and be able to reorganize his work.
But it was from this time on, when Su Yu was in daily life and work, he always felt that his head was faintly painful, but because he did not know that his skull was still deeply embedded with two pieces of shrapnel, Su Yu did not know how to relieve his pain.
Although he found a variety of prescriptions, but none of them can completely solve Su Yu's headache, in desperation, Su Yu had to constantly use cold water to wash his head when he had a headache, trying to use cold water stimulation to relieve pain, or divert his attention from pain.
Later, in his long revolutionary career, Su Yu did not mention this matter to anyone, perhaps he did not know that he still had three pieces of shrapnel in his head. Headaches that occur from time to time, because the root of the disease cannot be found, are treated as a strange disease.
The secret of this disease is that after Su Yu's death, the three pieces of shrapnel that accompanied Su Yu for most of his life were found in the ashes after the cremation of the body, and the secret that puzzled people for a long time was also revealed.
Three pieces of shrapnel from General Su Yu's skull
Three small pieces of shrapnel have plagued a Republican tiger for 54 years, and this can't help but make us lament the great contribution made by the revolutionary ancestors of that year to today's happy life. Without their efforts, who would have known how long the Chinese nation would continue to wander in the darkness?
