In February this year, Xi'an University of Science and Technology received a letter of thanks from the Shandong Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government, in which it expressed its heartfelt thanks to the school and the 9 members of the Wenhu team for their strong support in the rescue of this accident.

Time back to January 10 this year, Shandong Qixia City Wat Mountain Gold Mine explosion accident, 22 miners underground life and death unknown! Wen Hu was on a business trip in Yulin at this time, and after learning about this situation from news reports, he judged from experience that there must be survivors among the underground personnel. He immediately called the team members to prepare to use the "borehole communication device" to search for and rescue the survivors of the well, which was independently designed and developed by the Wenhu team and is commonly known as the "life detector".

The rescue scene is complex and changeable, and the rescue is a race against time and death. Wen Hu and his team members worked overtime, 24 hours of uninterrupted monitoring, searched for trapped people underground, and finally "connected" to 11 surviving miners at a depth of 586 meters, providing reliable first-hand information for the expert group to formulate rescue plans in precision and science, and playing an important role in successfully rescuing surviving miners.

"At that time, the weather was particularly cold, and the team members did not return to the station until two or three o'clock in the morning every day to rest, and two personnel were left on duty. The comrades on duty can only rest in the bunks of tents or fire trucks and accept the dispatch of the on-site command at any time. One staff member recalled.

"As long as there is a glimmer of hope, we must not give up!" Wen Hu said that every time he was at the scene of the accident rescue, he always hoped to rescue one more person. This is not the first time that Wen Hu has participated in accident rescue, every time there is a fire safety accident in the coal mine, he will always skillfully use scientific and technological achievements to solve the problems on the spot when he participates in the rescue, and has been awarded the "Honorary Miner" by many coal mines.

Wen Hu said. Since teaching for 25 years, he has kept in mind the mission of "educating people for the party and the country" and actively inherited advanced culture. In the school, he was a teacher, inherited the wonderful spirit, raised funds to help students teach and research, rewarded more than 360 graduate and undergraduate students who loved coal science and excellent character and learning, and distributed more than 1.6 million yuan in bonuses. He has won 2 National Science and Technology Progress Awards, 1 National Teaching Achievement Award, more than 50 provincial and ministerial science and technology awards, more than 80 patents, more than 10 books, and more than 200 academic papers. His scientific research achievements have been applied to more than 1,000 coal mines in China and exported to Russia, Australia, Bangladesh and other countries.

Practice the mission and serve the society

Participated in the extinguishing of more than 160 fires in more than 100 coal mining enterprises

Wen hu has been deeply involved in the front line of mine production for a long time, not afraid of danger, overcoming difficulties, calm commanding, and extinguishing many fires. When extinguishing the fire in Hancheng, Shaanxi Province, he risked the possibility of gas explosion at any time, entered the disaster area with the ambulance team to investigate, grasped the first-hand information, and adopted a targeted plan to completely extinguish the fire extinguishing area, eliminate the hidden danger of gas explosion, and safely restore mine production. When he extinguished the fire in Yima, Henan, he and the ambulance team stood in waist-deep water and worked continuously for dozens of hours to extinguish the coal seam fire.

Up to now, he has participated in the extinguishing of more than 160 fires in 15 provinces and more than 100 coal mining enterprises in Shaanxi, Shanxi, Inner Mongolia and other provinces, withdrawn more than 1 billion yuan of equipment from the fire area, liberated more than 30 million tons of frozen coal, and created an output value of more than 6 billion yuan.

On December 25, 2015, Shandong Pingyi Gypsum Mine had a major collapse accident, dispatched by the National Safety Production Emergency Rescue Command Center, he led the team to the scene, using the self-developed "life detector" to find 4 surviving miners, in the follow-up rescue of the surviving miners' living space and vertical life-saving channel more than 50 times, for the command leaders and domestic and foreign experts to provide timely, accurate and critical information, successfully rescued 4 trapped underground miners. The CPC Central Committee, the State Council, the State Administration of Work Safety, and the Shandong Provincial People's Government gave Wenhu high affirmation and praise.

On January 10, 2021, in the explosion of the Wat Shan gold mine in Shandong Province, the equipment developed by Wenhu played an important role in successfully rescuing 11 surviving miners trapped underground. At present, the "Mine Rescue Visual Command Device" and "Liquid Carbon Dioxide Fire Extinguishing Device" developed by him have been purchased by bidding and procurement by the State Administration of Work Safety, and are equipped in 21 state-level mine rescue bases and more than 100 mine rescue teams.

Wen Hu said that serving the society is one of the most important functions of the university, for more than ten years, the team has continued to study and repeatedly experiment, that is, it hopes to better serve the society, and now the equipment is more and more advanced, but we hope from the bottom of our hearts that it will never go to the "battlefield".
