Today, a symposium and academic exchange meeting to commemorate the 140th anniversary of Chen Yuan's birth will be held at Beijing Normal University, and a group of experts and professors will share and exchange Chen Yuan's research results and experience. Born in Shicun, Tangxia Town, Pengjiang District, Chen Yuan is a famous Chinese historian, religious historian, and educator who has devoted his life to rigorous study and respect history, is a great patriot, and has been praised as a "national treasure" by state leaders. On the occasion of the 140th anniversary of Chen Yuan's birth, in order to further excavate and enrich the local cultural connotation and highlight the cultural vitality, from November to December this year, Pengjiang District will hold a series of commemorative activities including academic exchange meetings, photo exhibitions, special reports, etc. to commemorate Chen Yuan.

ZhengRong years A generation of masters
Chen Yuan (Chinese: 陈垣; pinyin: ZhāngĀngāngĀngāng) was a pioneer and integrator of religious history, Yuan history, and historical philology, and was recognized as a world-class scholar, along with the master of traditional Chinese studies, Wang Guowei, and later with Chen Yinke, who was also known as the "Second Chen of Historiography". When he was 6 years old, he moved to Guangzhou with his father, where he studied private school and studied the Four Books and Five Classics. At the age of 13, he began to read Zhang Zhidong's "Bibliographic Answers" and "Outline of the General Bibliography of the Four Libraries", and embarked on the road of self-taught.
Chen Yuan has been teaching for 74 years in his life, teaching primary, secondary and university, and serving as the president of the university for 46 years. During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, he insisted on adhering to Peking Furen University, repeatedly refused the invitation of the Japanese puppet government to win over, and insisted on educating students on patriotism; he used the battlefield of books and pens as weapons, chen gu and the present, wrote books expounding patriotic traditions, exposing the traitors and traitors, and strengthening confidence in the victory of the War of Resistance.
Chen Yuan loved to read all his life and was a book collector, involving religion, literature, history and many other disciplines. He abandoned the ancient method of "heavy collection and light use" of books and advocated the use of hiding. Chen Yuan made a will before his death, and all of the more than 40,000 books and more than 1,000 calligraphy and painting cultural relics he collected were donated to the state. At the state banquet held in November 1951, Chen Yuan attended, and Chairman Mao Zedong introduced himself to others: "This is Mr. Chen Yuan, who has read a lot and is a national treasure of our country. ”
Annual commemorative events are held
Chen Yuan devoted his life to studying, learned five cars, and achieved fruitful results, and to this day, the spirit and bones still exist. In Pengjiang District, he is an immortal cultural monument and a huge spiritual source that encourages cadres and the masses to work hard, dare to work hard, and dare to innovate.
Since 2016, Pengjiang District has held a series of "Chen Yuan Cup" reading activities every year, inheriting the "Chen Yuan Spirit" while creating a bookish atmosphere and promoting reading for the whole people; in 2017, Professor Chen Zhichao, the grandson of Mr. Chen Yuan, returned to Pengjiang and funded the establishment of the "Chen Yuan Scholarship", which has rewarded 30 outstanding students so far, which not only inherits Chen Yuan's good family style, but also carries forward his patriotic and patriotic spirit. In terms of supporting facilities, Pengjiang District has built 15 Chen Yuan Bookstore self-service libraries, which have become an important part of the culture of Pengjiang District together with the existing humanistic facilities. Next, we will further protect and develop Chen Yuan's former residence, and it is planned to build Chen Yuan's former residence into a characteristic scenic garden complex with the theme of "the former residence of celebrities, traditional Chinese culture, national spirit, social morality education and patriotism and patriotism and partyism education base", integrating exhibition and chen commemoration, study and education, leisure and tourism, and cultural exchanges. It is worth mentioning that the 24-hour self-service library of Chen Yuan Bookstore in Pengjiang District was also awarded the title of the top ten "net red punching places" in Jiangmen City in 2019, which was well received by the general public readers.
Every year, the citizens who participate in the series of commemoration activities in Pengjiang District to commemorate Chen Yuan have a large number of readers and a great social impact, which has become a cultural event that the citizens look forward to. In order to further carry forward Chen Yuan's patriotic spirit of rigorously administering his studies, respecting history, and dedicating himself to education, on the occasion of the 140th anniversary of Chen Yuan's birth, this year, Pengjiang District held a series of commemorative activities, among which the "Commemoration of the 140th Anniversary of Mr. Chen Yuan's Birth - Exhibition of Pictures of Chen Yuan's Life" was launched at the Pengjiang District Museum on November 6; the documentary "National Treasure" Chen Yuan" was also launched on November 9 at the former residence of Chen Yuan in Stone Village, Tangxia Town.
It is reported that the photo exhibition of Chen Yuan's life will last until November 27, and will tour the Heshan City Museum, Kaiping City Museum, Enping City Museum and Xinhui District Museum from November 30 to December 30. The documentary production team will shoot in Beijing, Guangzhou, Pengjiang, Kaiping, and go deep into the Central Party History Research Office, Beijing Normal University, the National Library, the Former Residence of Chen Yuan in Jiangmen, the Wuyi Museum of Overseas Chinese in Jiangmen, the Jiangmen Party Member Electronic Education Center, and other places to shoot, objectively and truly restore Chen Yuan's life deeds, and show the audience Chen Yuan's rigorous and serious attitude of studying with the times.
