The Absurd Animal Trial (2): The "Green Beetle Incident" in the Alps

The trial of animals, although very common in medieval Europe, is more famous for a "green beetle event".

The Saint-Joulén region of the Alps, europe's highest mountain, is famous for its wine production, but in 1545 a flock of green beetles came from nowhere and nibbled up the vineyards. The peasants lined up in religious lines to pray in the fields and went to churches to give mass, but to no avail. I had to appeal to the inquisition and sue the Green Beetle.

The court took up the case in accordance with the relevant law and appointed the Green Beetle's defense lawyer, whose name was Pierre Lampa. Lampa defended the Green Beetle in court and gave a very emotional speech, which calmed the anger and only gave the Beetle a decision to "relocate elsewhere".

However, the Special Trial Committee considered for a long time the question of where to relocate, and later found a particularly fertile land. The Commission has developed special documents to prove that the Green Beetle has the right to use the land forever;

However, Fior, a respected teacher and the green beetle's second advocate, opposed the decision. Because this coincided with the beginning of the war between the feudal lords, the chariots and soldiers of the Duke of Savoy would soon pass through the land that was ready to be "ceded" to the green beetles to live, and it was clear that in this situation the beetles could not live in this area.

However, when the Duke of Savoy's army passed through the area, the defenders said that the soldiers had caused so much damage to the inviolable area that it was impossible for the green beetles to live there in peace and comfort. In view of this new situation, the court finally ruled that the green beetles stayed where they were and did not have to "migrate", and the farmers lost the case completely.

There are many such "civil lawsuits", but most of them are "defendant" animals that win.
