"Listening" to the young talents in the dialogue "The Strongest Brain": Insight into life and asking questions about the future

At this year's World's Top Scientists Forum, in addition to the star-studded "science masters", there are more than 100 small scientists from all over the country. Yesterday, a "Science T Conference and Young Talents Exchange Dialogue" was held. Imaginative imagination and cross-generational communication have benefited the children a lot, and also made top scientists sigh that the future is terrible. Listen to the report:

"I'm bringing this topic today, called 'About Aliens and Mathematics'..."

What is the relationship between aliens and mathematics? Is it possible that one plus one is less than two? At the exchange meeting, the young scientists shared their imaginations one by one, many of which came from their lives and hobbies. Li Shijia from Jinling Middle School in Nanjing, starting from his favorite athletics, thought about whether he could make a "smart discus" that could independently measure distances and trajectories.

"Because when I was training at the gymnasium, I saw the discus project, and it was very inconvenient to use this ruler to pull it for outdoor throwing. My idea was to make a more convenient electronic discus to help them train. ”

The teenagers also came up with prepared questions and asked scientists from major universities across the country.

"Is it possible for a machine to have the logical ability to think like a human?"

"At present, artificial intelligence is asking for knowledge from humans. The next step in development is how to apply artificial intelligence technologies and algorithms in all walks of life. ”

There are also some problems that make it difficult for the scientists present to "pick up the tricks".

"We know that except in special cases, the three-body movement is insoluble. I would like to know, what are the influencing factors of the degree of chaos in the three-body motion? ”

"The question the child asked was very professional, so professional that I couldn't actually answer this question."

In the view of Wu Xiangping, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a researcher at the National Astronomical Observatory, these questions, which seem to be somewhat imaginative and difficult to answer at present, are waiting for them to explore on their own. Therefore, he brought a surprise to these teenagers: he will take out 1% of the observation time of the FAST radio telescope and open it to middle school students.

"Anyone here who wants to use FAST, find aliens, or do something else, you can bring it up." You don't have to understand telescopes, we have someone to give you observations, but this idea must be different. ”

After the two-hour exchange meeting, the students still surrounded the scientists, some to sign, some to continue to throw out questions. Academician Wu Xiangping was very touched by the children's curiosity. And what he most wanted to tell these little scientists was to let them learn to accept failure.

"Maybe 1,000 scientists did not succeed in doing one thing, and only one succeeded in the end." But it doesn't matter, all people do it for scientific exploration. Therefore, we must let children learn that scientific knowledge, scientific research can succeed and fail, so that children can endure failure from an early age, so that they can finally succeed. ”
