On December 25, 1925, the Red Line Woman was born in Xiguan, Guangzhou, and often went to the theater with her mother to watch plays, and came back to sing at home to imitate the singing. When the mother proposed that she wanted her daughter to study drama, the father was firmly opposed, believing that "it is not an adult to become a play". The little red line woman made up her mind at that time, "I must become a drama and an adult."
In 1938, the Red Line Woman made her debut at the Qingping Theater in Macau. In 1943, the Red Line Woman joined Ma Shi Zeng's troupe with her master He Fulian, and during a performance of "Soft Skin Snake Recruiting County Horse", because the actor who played the heroine suddenly had unbearable stomach pain, Ma Shi once let the Red Line Woman save the scene, and the result was a great success, which was the first time that the Red Line Woman took on the role of ZhengYin Dan. She was 18 years old.
In the chaotic world, the troupe's survival was difficult, but it still went to many places to raise funds for charity performances, and the audience reacted most strongly at that time to "Hong Chengzuo", and every performance must be full.
After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, the Red Line woman settled in Hong Kong and became an amphibious actress in film and drama. The red line female voice is loud and loud to curb the clouds, and the tone is crisp as a pearl falling on a jade plate, but it is round and mellow, which has attracted the attention and love of a large number of audiences. The exquisite skills are called "red cavity" and "female cavity", and gradually form a unique style of "red school" art.
She created her first own troupe, "Truth, Goodness and Beauty Troupe", during which she rehearsed excellent plays such as "Madame Butterfly", "The History of Hatred in the Qing Palace", and "Zhaojun Out of the Plug" with a number of outstanding artists.
In 1955, the Red Line Women followed the Hong Kong Ceremony Group to Beijing to participate in the National Day Ceremony, and felt that the motherland had undergone earth-shaking changes. On December 14 of the same year, after completing the contract for the last film, the Red Line Woman gave up her privileged life in Hong Kong and resolutely returned to Guangzhou to join the Guangdong Cantonese Opera Troupe (now Guangdong Cantonese Theatre).
In 1956, Ma Shizeng and Hongxin actress starred in "Search Academy" into Beijing for performance, which triggered a huge response in the capital's literary and art circles, mei Lanfang, Xia Yan and others came to watch. After Premier Zhou Enlai watched the performance, he praised Cantonese opera as a "red bean of the southern country" at a symposium, and "Search Academy" also became a milestone in the history of Cantonese opera reform.
In 1959, the Red Line Woman joined the Communist Party of China under the introduction of Bai Jurong, the first artist party member in the Cantonese opera industry, and vowed to serve the people all her life. Then she proved with her artistic practice and life path of more than half a century that she truly became an artist for the working people.
In 2009, The Red Line Woman won the first "Chinese Drama Lifetime Achievement Award".
On December 8, 2013, the red line woman died of illness in Guangzhou.
Today, the master has passed away, but her image of silver hair and red clothes has become more and more vivid in people's hearts, and her spirit and quality have always inspired groups of Cantonese opera workers and influenced generations of people.
