So why did Shunzhi choose the old third Xuanye instead of the older second Fuquan?

From this point of view, Old Third Xuanye had no advantage over Fuquan. But in fact, the reason why Shunzhi chose Xuan Ye instead of Fuquan actually has its own reason.
We know that the ancient emperor was still very cautious in choosing a successor, so when the early Manchu Qing did not have a system of primogeniture, it was really not too easy to choose a suitable person.
Xuan Ye won because when he was very young, he suffered from smallpox, which gave him an advantage. The reason why I say this is because smallpox at that time was a very fatal disease, and the mortality rate was very high, but it was basically difficult to survive anyone who suffered from it.
Smallpox was so terrible, but Xuan Ye overcame it and miraculously came back to life. In this way, in the Great Qing Dynasty, it became an incomparably peculiar thing, and many people believed that Xuan Ye survived because of the blessing of the heavens and the care of the heavens for the Manchu Qing.
Although Fuquan had not been able to get it, no one dared to guarantee that he would not get it later, after all, smallpox had already scared the Manchu Qing imperial family.
Just as the so-called great difficulty does not die, there will be a blessing, so Xuan Ye, naturally favored by the Shunzhi Emperor, smoothly became the successor.
