Sacrifice yourself to protect the bridge in a critical moment

Cai Yongxiang, a communist fighter dedicated to justice, was born in 1948 in Changlinhe Town, Feidong County, and in December 1965, he was conscripted into the New Recruit Company of the Yuhang Teaching Brigade in Zhejiang Province, and in February 1966, he was assigned to the Third Company of the First Battalion of the Zhejiang Provincial Military Region as a bridge guard.

In the early morning of October 10, 1966, when Cai Yongxiang was standing guard at the south end of the Qiantang River Bridge, a train rumbled forward. Illuminated by the lights of the train, he suddenly found a large log lying on the track more than 40 meters away from him. If not immediately ruled out, will cause the train derailment, casualties, bridge collision and other immeasurable losses, a thousand guns, Cai Yongxiang did not hesitate to meet the train rushed up, with all his strength to pick up the big wood, jumped to the right side of the track, the train drove safely, passengers escaped from danger, the bridge was saved, but he sacrificed heroically.

Cai Yongxiang's deeds of sacrificing himself to protect the bridge and risking to save people soon spread throughout the north and south of the great river, touching countless cadres and masses. "At that time, the troops held a memorial meeting for 10,000 people, and everyone was full of admiration when they mentioned Yongxiang." Cai Yongxiang's brother Cai Yonglong recalls. In recognition of his heroic deeds, the former Nanjing Military Region posthumously recognized Cai Yongxiang as a member of the Communist Party of China and posthumously recorded his first-class merits. Hangzhou city established the Cai Yongxiang Martyrs Exhibition Hall on Yuelun Mountain at the southern end of the Qiantang River, which was later renamed the Hangzhou Revolutionary Martyrs Memorial Hall, and now it has become a patriotic education base for Zhejiang Province and Hangzhou City.

The reporter saw that the Cai Yongxiang Memorial Hall was surrounded by green bricks and gray tiles, pine and cypress, which appeared solemn and quiet. The memorial sits east facing west and has 12 houses, more than 170 square meters.

Looking at the Cai Yongxiang Martyrs Memorial Hall, the first thing that catches the eye is the bronze statue of Cai Yongxiang wearing a military hat and military uniform, with a young face but a resolute gaze. Visiting the memorial hall is like opening a heavy copy of "The Biography of Cai Yongxiang". One by one familiar daily necessities, touching stories, precious photos, and moving pictures vividly tell the growth experience of Cai Yongxiang in his childhood, childhood, and youth, and comprehensively show the image of a hero who is diligent and studious, bears hardships and stands hard work, sacrifices himself as a person, is not afraid of sacrifice, and is loyal to the party. In 2021, the museum was rated as the first batch of Theme Party Day Activity Bases for Hefei Municipal Organs.

According to Cheng Sheng, a member of the Publicity Committee of Changlinhe Town, the Cai Yongxiang Memorial Hall has been built and exhibited twice, and in 2012 it was listed as a county-level cultural relics protection unit by the Feidong County Government, and a cultural relics protection monument was erected, and in 2018, it was rated as a patriotic education base in Hefei. "Every year, more than 40,000 people come to pay respects, most of whom are units and individuals who come to visit and study, and feel the original mission and strengthen their ideals and beliefs from Cai Yongxiang's deeds."

Cai Yongxiang's heroic deeds of serving the country by example have inspired and inspired groups of young people to serve the motherland.
