When I was in Jianshui, the hostel owner Xu Ge told me that there was a "fossil village" in Shiping, all the houses were built with fossils, and asked me if I wanted to see, such a magical village is not to be missed, so I and a few friends of the hostel drove from Jianshui to the fossil village.
Fossil village real name is Lao Xudian Village, located in Niujie Town, Shiping County, Honghe Prefecture, Yunnan Province, 48 kilometers away from the county seat, about 70 kilometers away from jianshui, along the way are all mountain roads or village roads, more than two hours by car, the mountain road eighteen bends, the road is relatively narrow.
The road passes through many villages, often seeing ox carts, and the means of transportation are relatively primitive. Along the way, we kept climbing over the mountains and valleys, and finally came to the "fossil village" in the deep mountains of Yunnan, which looked like a stone castle from a distance and emitted a golden glow. Most of the people I met in the village were old people and children, and we chatted with an old grandfather who was sitting under a big tree to cool off.
I asked him do you know that the stones you built are fossils? He said he didn't know it before, but now he knows it, because he has been here in the experts, and there have been many news tv and other media reports. He said that their ancestors here have built houses with this kind of stone for generations, and there are many such stones up and down the mountain.
Why is old Xudian Village called "Fossil Village"? It is because all the houses here are made of fossils, which can be called a living fossil museum. Some experts have examined that the fossil village was a dense primeval forest hundreds of millions of years ago, and later after a long period of change, the forest became a mulberry field, leaving countless fossils and piling up into mountains. Therefore, local villagers took local materials and directly built houses with fossils, slowly forming today's fossil village.
It is said that the fossil-built house is warm in winter and cool in summer, has good sound insulation effect, and is permeable and breathable, which is more comfortable than ordinary stone and brick houses. In Laoxudian Village, not only the houses where people live are built with fossils, but even toilets, pigs, flue-cured tobacco houses, etc. are built with fossils, is it not very "luxurious"?
According to experts, the fossils of the fossil village belong to the more common fossils, do not belong to the category of cultural relics, and have no special collection value, so it is impossible to pick up stones here to get rich. However, this fossil village built of fossils is very distinctive, included in the fifth batch of traditional Chinese villages list, and has become one of the ten most mysterious villages in China.
Wandering around the village, from time to time you can see various patterns on the stones in the house, such as leaves, flowers, birds, insects, etc., which is very magical, as if you have walked into an open-air fossil museum. Although the fossil village is special, but the traffic is inconvenient, the scenery is not as beautiful and spectacular as Yunnan Dali, Lijiang, Shangri-La, so there are few tourists.
Only people like us who like to hunt for curiosity will come and see.
There is a small river running through the village, and below the village are layers of terraces, and above the village is a dense forest. We sat down at an old grandmother's house, drank tea, and the grandmother of a family next to us also came with us, and gave us some fruits, saying that they were bought at the market yesterday, and such a simple folk custom was only found in the original village here. However, somehow the windows here are built very small, so the indoor light is not very good.
Although the natural scenery here is average, the photo of the people in the fossil village is very beautiful, especially wearing national costumes or wearing ethnic-style long skirts to take pictures, which is particularly easy to make large films, but unfortunately several of us are just wearing casual clothing. At present, there is no inn in fossil village, so we wandered around for a few hours and then returned, and when we went back, our friends spent 100 yuan to buy two stones from the villagers, and she said that although it is not collectible, it can be kept as a souvenir.
