Drinks International recently launched the 2021 World's Most Popular Whisky Brands Report, which was co-authored by enthusiasts, journalists, bartenders and whisky experts from 25 countries around the world.
The ranking combines factors such as brand quality, price/performance and sales volume, and in order to ensure diversity, there can be no more than 5 whiskies of the same type.
In the end, 50 bottles of whisky from nine different countries made up the complete list, with Penn Suntory Group's Yamazaki at the top of the list, Irish whisky robin runner-up and Legavelin third.
Notably, there are nine active wineries in Islay, eight of which are on the list, which is enough to show how much the island has influenced the whisky world.
Overall, Scotch whisky occupies half of the list, while whiskies in the United States and around the world are evenly divided, so let's take a look at what brands are on the list:
01 Yamazaki Yamazaki
Hailed by Penn Suntory Group as "the pioneer of Japanese whisky", Yamazaki was Japan's first malt distillery, founded in the early 20th century, and with the scale and reputation of time, Yamazaki has participated in international spirits competitions for several consecutive years, releasing the 55-year single malt whisky earlier this year, the oldest wine in the brand's history.
Suntory has also been honored with the most popular world whisky brand, which has a large number of loyal fans in the United States and Europe.
02 Robin Redbreast
Arguably one of the best-selling Irish whisky brands, Redbreast dates back to the early 20th century, and by 1925, as a result of the post-war depression, whisky had become a luxury and was so popular among wealthy clergy that it was dubbed "the priest's bottle".
Robin was also named the most popular Irish whiskey brand.
03 Legavirin Lagavulin
Lagavulin is part of the Diageo Group. LeGawarin has been considered a classic for 16 years and is very popular with enthusiasts. With a history of over 200 years, The LeGawarin Distillery is currently one of the most respected whisky brands. This summer, the brand released an 11-year-old model that has been in the barrel of beer for four months and has also been well received by everyone.
Legavirin has also been named the most popular Scotch whisky brand honours.
04 Moët Poem Michter's
Born in Kentucky in the mid-1990s, Michter's dates back to 1753, when Johann and Michael Shenk established The Distillery Shenk's in Pennsylvania, one of the first distilleries to make American whiskey from the rye from their grain fields, and George Washington bought their whisky in the winter of 1778 to warm up soldiers.
It wasn't until the 1950s that the distillery adopted the name of mochi, which we now know as moët, and many of the moệi's liquors today can be counted in the ranks of rare American whiskeys and are sought after by enthusiasts.
05 The Balvenie
The Balvenie distillery, which ranked first on this year's list, still makes whiskey from its own barley and retains the traditional technique of floor-to-floor malting, becoming a brand that truly operates the traditional way. The distillery has a very long history and has become one of the most popular single malt whisky brands in the industry.
Perplex's high vintage rare wines are very popular, and the recent Story Series Whisky also highlights the brand's traditional nature.
06 Jaber Ardbeg
The history of the Ardbeg winery can be said to be very ups and downs. From 1815-1886 the distillery's production could reach 300,000 litres per year, however the distillery ceased production in 1981 due to the sluggish global whisky market in the 1970s. After repeatedly resuming production and production, it was finally acquired in 1997 and fully resumed production a year later.

07 Buhrady Bruichladdich

For 200 years, the brand has adhered to tradition, from wheat to bottling. Genting's collection value has soared over the past decade, often breaking auction records, and it has become a darling of investors and collectors alike.
09 Chichibu
In 2004 Ichiro Akuto founded one of the world's most popular Japanese whiskies. Chichibu is unique in its attention to detail, and while Chichibu is known for its single malt whisky, its blended whisky is one of the best-selling liquors to date.
10 hibiki
Launched hibiki in 1989, Penn Suntory has become Japan's most popular blended whisky brand, originally selected from Yamazaki, Chita and Shirashu Distilleries, with its attention to detail and meticulous pursuit of craftsmanship making the brand one of the best blended whisky brands in the world.

In the list, we can see that the 22nd place English whisky brand COTSWOLDS can be said to be a surprise, the distillery only launched the first single malt whisky in 2017, which is the youngest brand on the list.
