As a native artist in Shanghai, Lu Jian is familiar with the Shanghai Youth Art Exhibition, "This exhibition is very attractive to young people, and well-known artists such as Ding Yi and Han Zijian stand out from this platform." ”

At the 16th Shanghai Youth Art Exhibition, young artists expressed themselves and responded to the times with broader thinking, more flexible emotions and more diversified explorations.

Post-90s artist Wang Yi media brought the video work "Comfort Comfort", which expressed the general anxiety of modern people with developed social networks. "In the Internet age, people are prone to impetuosity, it is difficult to sink their hearts into doing something, and then they will unconsciously browse social media."

Li Zhimin, a post-90s sculptor, graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts with a bachelor's degree, studied at the China Academy of Art, and now teaches in the Sculpture Department of the Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts. This time, he had three wood carvings on display. "I want to use a handmade way to cushion the impact of fast-paced life on the people of the moment." Li Zhimin told reporters.

Provide a platform for young curators to showcase their talents

This year's exhibition uses new talents to form a curatorial team, and studies and sorts out the exhibition in the form of sub-section curation, providing a platform for young curators to display their talents.

"The younger generation's attention to traditional Chinese culture is constantly awakening." Zhang Zhang, curator of the first section of "The Realm of Heart Seals", said, "Historical Chinese classical art has become more and more the mainstream of global art integration, and the development of traditional Chinese art in contemporary times has given new vitality. ”

In Zhang's view, the influence of globalization on Chinese contemporary art has changed from the earliest western paintings occupying the mainstream expression of the Chinese art circle to the current transformation into a retrospective and rethinking of China's classical art language and the philosophical ideas behind it. "More and more people realize that studying the spirit and ideological connotation of their own culture is the foundation for the development of Chinese contemporary art. There is such a group of young Chinese artists, in different cultural backgrounds, but together they show in-depth thinking and research on the spirit of classical Chinese art and philosophy. ”

The second section is "The Language of the Wooden Path", the works on display use different forms of artistic expression to express the young artists' reverence and thinking about life, as well as their deep attachment to the green waters, green mountains and homeland. Curator Zhong Jin said that the new youth of the new era, with a broader modern vision, make full use of the advantages of contemporary digital integration, and strive to deepen the relationship and re-understanding between man and nature, culture, new media and new technologies in the discussion and reflection of the ancient and modern.

The third section, "Between the Subtle," invites some young people who are true to themselves, showing an alternative interpretation of their relationship with natural matter. "Its appearance seems to be a reconstruction of the trivial objects around it, but it is actually an insistence on the direction of the self."" Curator Zhou Yang said, "Modern society is diversified, the relationship between people has become more complex, the relationship between people and matter has become more dependent, and the resulting value judgment standards have changed, which is also the price of the progress of the times and social change." As a sober modern person, we must not forget our original intention. ”

In the fourth section, "Beyond The Vision", young artists synthesize artistic expression through diverse creative materials and cutting-edge digital media technologies. Curator Xiao Xue told reporters: "Breaking through the inherent artistic boundaries, with the help of new media, installations, images and other diversified media and types to comprehensively express their artistic views and creative attitudes, this kind of 'cross-border art' that goes out of the circle of science and technology, film and television has become the primary choice for many young artists to create." ”

Continue to support young artists and stimulate the originality and innovation of urban art

Guided by the spirit of Shanghai City and urban character, the 16th Shanghai Youth Art Exhibition provides a platform for young people's art creation in the new era, leading artistic youth to expand their international vision, strengthen cultural self-confidence, pursue the original intention of art, and cultivate innovative ability.

This year's Youth Art Exhibition launched the theme "New Youth", introduced a new young artist selection mechanism, and widely selected young artistic talents through self-declaration, expert nomination, institutional recommendation, etc. In just two weeks, more than 4,800 works by nearly 1,800 creators from 22 provinces, 4 municipalities directly under the central government and 5 autonomous regions across the country, except for Hainan Province, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, were collected, and after the second round of careful selection by the expert jury, about 160 works/groups of works by more than 80 young artists were selected for this exhibition.

Wang Yi Media saw the call for papers for this year's Youth Art Exhibition on a public account. She submitted the manuscript and was chosen. "Shanghai's attitude towards young artists is very tolerant, and it also gives young artists a lot of opportunities to show their works." Wang Yi media said.

Tolerance and diversity are the common impressions of many young artists on the Shanghai Youth Art Exhibition. "This is consistent with the urban temperament of Shanghai, and in this exhibition, I fully feel the acceptance of young people by the organizers." Lu Jian said.

Bao Weihua, director of Liu Haisu Art Museum, said that as one of the organizers, Liu Haisu Art Museum has always followed Mr. Liu Haisu's artistic concept and innovative spirit. He once sent a message to young painters: to be the vanguard of the times and the forerunner of thought. "As an exhibition brand, Shanghai Fine Arts Exhibition stands at a new historical starting point, continues to pay attention to and support the growth of young artists, stimulates the originality and innovation of urban art, and continuously helps the development of urban soft power."
