In 1896, Mao Dun was born in Wuzhen in a family surnamed Shen, and his father named him Dehong, hoping that he would become a morally upright person. In this elementary school, 12-year-old Mao Dun wrote down the lofty ideal that "the eldest husband should take the world as his responsibility". The humanistic spirit of Wuzhen edified Mao Dun and also provided a source for his literary creation. In 1932, Mao Dun, who was already working in Shanghai, returned home to visit his mother and witnessed the decline of his hometown.
When he arrived in his hometown, he was told that the cocoons were harvested, but they could not be sold. Then one day he walked to the door of the Huiyuan pawnshop and saw many people holding clothes and silk sutras, going to this pawnshop to exchange money, wanting to get through this difficult time. However, if this thing in the pawnshop is not collected, or if it is collected, the price is very low, then, he can't imagine, how can such a very rich place be so poor now?
At that time, due to the aggression of the imperialist powers, almost all of Wuzhen's traditional industry and commerce went bankrupt, and the changes in his hometown triggered Mao Dun's thinking, and soon after, he wrote "Lin Jia Puzi", and later published works such as "Spring Cocoon" and "Midnight", which inspired the thinking of a generation of Chinese.
