Professor Xu Zhihong of Zhejiang University: Young people in Taiwan should not live up to and be absent from the era of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation

The Ninth Straits Youth Summit was held at the Fuzhou Strait International Convention and Exhibition Center on October 30. Xu Zhihong, a young professor in Taiwan from Zhejiang University, put forward three suggestions to the young people in Taiwan in his speech, saying that compared with the modern ancestors who lived in the colonization of the great powers, we are very fortunate to live in the era of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and have good opportunities for development. Xu Zhihong appealed that we should not live up to this era, we should have a clear understanding of the world situation, clarify the direction of development, and work hard for the realization of ourselves, and if everyone is strong, then national rejuvenation will be successful.

Hsu Chi-hong said: First of all, young people in Taiwan must have a big historical outlook. The main media opinion in Taiwan is a Western perspective, and the world has been dominated by the West for more than a hundred years, so that in Taiwan there is often an illusion that the "Western system" is superior. In fact, from the perspective of human history, the West has dominated the world for only the last 200 years or so. A series of historical events in recent decades, such as the completion of the globalization layout of the mainland's accession to the WTO, the 911 incident that changed the strategic arrangement of the United States to the world, and the outbreak of the new crown epidemic last year exposed the shortcomings of the Western system, etc., have made the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation enter an irreversible historical process, and it is inevitable to return to the peak. But revival will not fall from the sky, and it will require the joint efforts of all the descendants of Yan huang. All the sons and daughters of China in Taiwan should not and cannot be absent in the process of China's rejuvenation.

Xu Zhihong said: Second, the suggestion to young people in Taiwan who have never been to the mainland is to avoid meaningless discussions on fake issues, seek truth from facts, and rely on what they see. For example, in Taiwan, the current issue of national identity is actually a false issue, as long as it is not jumped out of the stone, you must have parents, you must have ancestors, your genes, blood, surnames, culture, traditions are all Chinese, not to mention that many people still have ancestral tablets in their homes, of course, you are yanhuang descendants, this does not need to be debated at all. Since most of the Taiwanese people have never been to the mainland, their understanding of the mainland is through the media from a Western perspective. However, it is better for others to describe it a thousand times than to experience it once, even if you have a negative impression of the mainland, you should still experience it yourself. Here is a small story, desertification is called the cancer of the earth, is a major threat to the survival of mankind, ancient and modern China and foreign are helpless. However, after 30 or 40 years of continuous efforts on the mainland, many deserts have been successfully reversed, and in the Kubuqi Desert in Inner Mongolia alone, more than 6,000 square kilometers (1/6 of the size of Taiwan) have completed the "miracle" of turning the desert into fertile land. Imagine that in a general electoral system, candidates only care about whether they will be re-elected after four years, and it is impossible to say to voters, "You vote for me, and in 30 years I can make the desert fertile." However, this decades-long land strategy can be done by the mainland in the future rather than in the present, and can benefit future generations. The differences are worth pondering and witnessing.

Xu Zhihong finally suggested that, third, sharing the experience of developing Taiwanese youth on the mainland should be grounded and serve as a bridge. The mainland has a good platform to support development, but not a good platform will certainly be able to develop well, since you come to try to follow the customs, the more you understand and understand and respect the local terroir, the smaller the resistance to your development. In addition, we must serve as a bridge for cross-strait exchanges, and the lack of mutual understanding is one of the main problems on both sides of the strait. More exchanges are the key to enhancing mutual understanding, and we who are "compatriots in the mainland and Taiwan" are a natural bridge for cross-strait exchanges, and we should do our best to let our relatives and friends in Taiwan know the real development of the mainland at present. There are also hundreds of thousands of compatriots in the mainland and Taiwan, and if everyone can have the courage to take responsibility, it will be able to play a major role in mutual understanding between the two sides of the strait.
