Haimi, named after the flying fish that can "fly", is a fish that lives in the upper layer of the ocean, and is also the object of some fierce fish to prey. Although flying fish do not have the same wings as birds, they can jump out of the water for more than ten meters and glide along the sea for hundreds of meters, which can be called the "flyer" among fish.
Habits of social living
Flying fish live in the upper layers of warm waters, and are more abundant in tropical waters, including the equatorial waters of the Pacific Ocean. They are slender in stature, with a short snout, a small mouth, large eyes, and a wing-like pectoral fin. They usually jump out of the water en masse, with one flying fish king taking the lead in each flock of flying fish. If fishermen catch the Flying Fish King, hundreds of flying fish will "fly" into the fishing boats on their own.
The secret of flying
In fact, flying fish do not really fly, and can only stay in the air for about 40 seconds. Whenever they are ready to leave the water, they will use their tails to shoot the water hard until they can accelerate enough to jump out of the water, and then open the pectoral and ventral fins to glide forward. The flying fish can glide continuously, and each time it falls back into the water, the tail pushes its body up. Therefore, flying fish can "fly" by the push from the tail fin, not their "wing" - the pectoral fin.
It is also not safe to fly
Marine biologists believe that flying fish do not jump out of the water easily. Most of the reasons why they "fly" are to escape the chase of large fish such as tuna and sharks, or to be stimulated by the sound of steamship engines. Flying fish are not safe to fly in the air, and are often caught by seabirds flying in the air, sometimes falling on islands or crashing into reefs and dying. Flying fish have sharp eyesight during the day and weak eyesight at night, sometimes flying blindly, and even falling onto the deck of a sailing ship, becoming a delicacy on people's tables.
Flying Fish Island Nation
The coral island nation of Barbados at the eastern tip of the Caribbean Sea is famous for its abundance of flying fish and is known as the "Flying Fish Island Nation". There are nearly 100 species of flying fish here, and the small flying fish are not as large as the palms, and the large ones are more than two meters long. Flying fish is not only a specialty of Barbados, but also a symbol of the island nation. Many of the entertainment venues and tourist facilities here are named after the "flying fish", and the dishes made from the flying fish are the famous dishes of Barbados. Visitors can not only enjoy the spectacle of "flying fish hitting the waves", but also receive exquisite flying fish medals.
Huilan Shibei
The body of the flying fish is approximately cylindrical, and the pectoral fins are particularly developed, like the wings of birds.
Phototropism Flying fish have phototropism. If a lamp is hung on the deck of the ship at night, flocks of flying fish will often seek the light and cast their nets.
