In 2017, Zhang Yang's work "Kailash" broke through 100 million, and this domestic "three noes" art film, which was jokingly called "no plot, no star, no hot IP", achieved a double harvest of box office reputation and attracted the attention of the industry for a time. Immediately after the director Zhang Yang published his first written work "The Road to Kailash", the legendary experience and the tense writing style all reveal Zhang Yang's insight into life and unique artistic outlook, and his profound literary skills also surprised fans.

At the "Master Art Class" activity on the 29th, Zhang Yang revealed to the audience that he studied in the Chinese Department of Sun Yat-sen University for two years before attending the Central Academy of Drama, and after two years of reading and literary accumulation in the Chinese Department, this experience benefited him a lot from his future creative road. Zhang Yang said that film is a comprehensive art, as a director, you must have the accumulation and understanding of literature, drama, painting and music in all aspects in order to continue to produce good works.

Zhang Yang showed a good artistic talent from the first film he directed, "Love Spicy and Hot", and then created films such as "Bathing", "Falling Leaves Returning to the Roots", and "Kailash", which were one of the few directors in China who did not fail in the eyes of film fans. In the activity, Zhang Yang introduced that his creative inspiration comes from two systems, one is the experience of daily life: Zhang Yang believes that human life experience is very complex, as a director, he should consciously expand, accumulate, precipitate, purify and polish his life experience through literary reading and other ways. Kailash is a completely improvisational creation

In the process of film creation, shooting overtime and budget overrun have always been two major problems in front of directors, and even experienced directors are difficult to avoid. Zhang Yang said that from the beginning of being a director to more than a dozen films now, there have been almost no problems of shooting overruns and budget overruns, which is because "I am not only a director, but also an excellent producer."

Zhang Yang used his two films "Kailash" and "Soul on the Leather Rope" as examples to introduce the specific operation method. He revealed that the two films were actually set-up and shot at the same time in a year. Although both are Tibetan subjects, they are two very different ways of creating, just at two extremes. "Soul on the Leather Rope" is based on two novels by Tibetan writer Tashi Dawa, "Tibet, the Soul Tied to the Leather Rope Knot" and "The Way to Lhasa", which first formed a very complete script, and then pulled a 100-person crew to shoot, which is a very traditional model. Because after the early communication with the author, although the film presents a very multi-layered narrative structure like a novel, there will be no temporary major changes during the shooting process, so the entire shooting cycle is controllable.

Zhang Yang said that "Soul on the Leather Rope" is a very comfortable creation for both the original author and the director, which not only reflects the essence of the novel through film and television language, but also finds an independent level that is different from the novel in the form of the film, "I think from the film "Soul on the Leather Rope", the writer to the director have actually found something. ”

"Kailash" is a completely improvised creation, Zhang Yang said that he first had a concept, and then after ten years of slowly looking for specific themes, after the accumulation of time, the film slowly took its own shape. But when it comes to specific shooting, this improvisation is not endless.

Zhang Yang introduced the filming of "Kailash" only found twenty or thirty non-professional creative personnel, he as a director is responsible for giving a time and space framework in advance, in terms of funds to meet the cost of the crew to eat, drink and sleep, forming a scientific operating system, in this scientific system, the director and crew have unlimited creative possibilities.
