Parents crash! An eraser head was hidden in the nose of his 4-year-old son for nearly a year...

City Express News "The child has a lot of pus and nose on the right side of his nose, and he always has nosebleeds... Could it be a malignant disease? Last week, a pair of young parents came to the ENT Department of Zhejiang Provincial People's Hospital with their 4-year-old sons in their arms, and their voices trembled.

Dr. Wang Qiang attended the 4-year-old boy. According to the parents, the boy often has a large amount of pus nasal discharge in the nasal cavity, the symptoms are repeated, the nose is also accompanied by obvious odor, nosebleeds and other uncomfortable symptoms, and the surrounding children often ridicule him as a "smelly nose". Previously, parents took their children to a number of hospitals, diagnosed with chronic sinusitis, and after treatment, there was still no improvement.

Wang Qiang used nasal endoscopy and soon found that the boy's right nasal cavity was near the rear end of the lower turbinates, and the surface was covered with blood scabs, adhering to the soft tissues around the nasal cavity. With the help of instruments, a clumpy foreign body in the nasal cavity is removed. Carefully identified, the foreign object turned out to be the head of the eraser on the pencil head!

When did the eraser head run into your child's nasal cavity? The child's mother estimated that it had been about a year.

The various "god" operations of the "bear children" often break down the parents. According to statistics, the Department of Otolaryngology of Zhejiang Provincial People's Hospital received nearly 50 cases of foreign bodies in the nasal and external auditory canals in 2020.

For example, recently, when a 5-year-old girl Xiao Xiao (pseudonym) put a small plastic bead into the external ear canal when she was playing, she was afraid of parental criticism, and she has been afraid to say it. Until half a month later, the mother found that sometimes she should not call the child, and when listening to the voice, she habitually turned her head sideways, "Deaf ears?" Hurriedly took her to the hospital.

Doctors judge empirically that there is a greater likelihood that a child will have a foreign body in the external auditory canal. After questioning, Xiao Xiaocai bowed his head and said that he put plastic beads into his ear canal. Fortunately, with the assistance of the endoscopy, the doctor successfully removed the plastic beads of the external ear canal.

If it is not strange to stuff things into the mouth and ears and nose, there are even more frightening, such as a 13-year-old boy admitted to the anorectal surgery department of Zhejiang Provincial People's Hospital some time ago, who stuffed crayfish into his anus; for example, a 9-year-old girl admitted to gynecology, the doctor took out a 1 cm long crayon-like foreign body from her private part.

Su Lizhong, director of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology of Zhejiang Provincial People's Hospital, said that parents usually observe their children's abnormal behavior, and once a foreign body enters the child's organ, they can do this:

1. The foreign body fell into the baby's ear: parents can first let the baby turn his head to the side, and the ear of the foreign body is facing down, so that the baby can jump on one foot. If it doesn't work, don't try to get the foreign body out of your ear yourself, but go to the hospital as soon as possible. Without specialized technology and instruments, hard extraction will only make the foreign body sink deeper and deeper, and even hurt the baby's eardrum and affect the hearing.

2. Foreign body falling into the baby's nose: Parents can use their thumbs to hold down the nostrils without foreign bodies, let the baby blow his nose vigorously, if nothing falls out, then go to the hospital as soon as possible. Do not try to clip the foreign body out with forceps, this risky behavior can only push the foreign body deep into the baby's nasopharynx, resulting in difficulty breathing.

3. Foreign body inhalation into the throat: the baby will suddenly have difficulty breathing, blue face and non-stop coughing, each breath of the baby, the foreign body will push a step deeper. When the foreign body enters the trachea or bronchi, the baby may feel a little better, but parents should not be careless, with the baby's cough, the foreign body will block the respiratory tract after displacement, the situation is very dangerous, should immediately call an ambulance to the hospital.

4. Foreign bodies have entered the child's stomach, vagina, urethra, anus, etc., and should go to the hospital as soon as possible to ask a doctor for help.
