Last week, the play "Spring Death" was performed for three days at the National Centre for the Performing Arts. Produced by nine dramas, the drama is set in the Institute of Physics of the Academia Sinica in the 1930s, telling the persistence and dedication of scientific researchers in the chaotic world, as well as women's thinking and pursuit of their own value.

Originating from the campus of Peking University, the Drama Nine Troupe has insisted on launching an original work every year since its establishment ten years ago, using drama to explore the mission of young intellectuals a hundred years ago and a hundred years later. "Spring Death" is the second time that the nine people of the drama have put the theme of the Republic of China on the stage after the word-of-mouth masterpiece "Four Machines". The drama is based on real history, and the characters in the play are Wu Jianxiong, the "Oriental Curie Lady", Gu Jinghui, "China's first female doctor of physics", and Ding Xilin, then director of the Institute of Physics of academia Sinica and a playwright. The story of the three people revolves around the "ledger" and "script", "experiment" and "life", which not only has the grand issues of pursuing scientific research ideals and stubbornly confronting injustices in difficult times, but also interspersed with relaxed and witty, warm and delicate daily segments, with light forms and deep meanings.
"Wu Nong's soft language also has a just posture; the slim female stream, there is no lack of Qingyun's ambition." When it comes to creative feelings, screenwriter Zhu Hongxuan believes that the physical twin sisters who are also teachers and friends in the play understand and support and watch over each other in difficult situations, which is a "really moving emotion". "Spring Death" is located at the intersection of the past and the present, which is not only a retrospective of the story of that year, but also an inspiration for the current era. To her delight, many audience members expressed their deep touch after the performance, not only reading about themselves from the play, but also gaining the precious courage to move forward in the face of adversity.

According to the main creative team, in September this year, the nine drama people will launch a new work of the Republic of China intellectual drama series "Double Maple Chronicle". The drama is in line with the background of the era of "Four Machines" and "Spring Death", and the relationship between the characters is longitudinal and horizontal, and it will still show the ancient and modern echoes of the intellectuals' style and bones with a text full of literary interest.
