Jin Shumei: Using dance to convey love and hope

Jin Shumei is a senior lecturer in dance, currently the vice chairman of the Provincial Dancers Association, the chairman of the Jiuquan Dancers Association, and has been awarded the honorary titles of "National Post Learning Lei Feng Pacesetter", "Chinese Good Man", "Gansu Provincial Moral Model", and "Ten Proud Sons of Longren" who moved Gansu... Behind the many identities and honors, Jin Shumei has taken root in the Gobi for seven years, used dance to convey love and hope, and protected the public welfare road of left-behind children. Now, at the age of 57, she has set out again to recruit and train dance volunteers for the Aesthetic Education Project for free, with the teaching of Dunhuang dance as the main content, "moving" the classroom into prison, and passing on more love and hope to those in need.

Use dance to spread the concept of public welfare

On October 13th, the 7th training class of the Kim Sook Mei Mei Mei Education Project Volunteer Dance Team was held. It was getting late and the dance training hall was brightly lit. Jin Shumei patiently explained to the students the basic gestures, footwork and basic movements of the Dunhuang dance in the Classical Chinese Dance "Velvet Flower" and Mongolian Dance.

"Arms stretched back, necks up, imagine an upward force in your body that keeps pulling you." More than 30 students practiced repeatedly with Jin Shumei to the melodious music. These trainees are all dance volunteers recruited by Jin Shumei, some of them are government officials, some are housewives, some are company employees, and some are self-employed. What unites them firmly is Jin Shumei, who has taken dance as a public welfare undertaking and has been running on this road for 7 years.

The dance comes from Dunhuang. Jin Shumei takes Dunhuang culture as the main content, integrates the unique Dunhuang story in the Dunhuang murals with the unique Dunhuang dance, so that the Dunhuang dance can walk off the altar and go to the masses, popularize and promote in the society, and lead the public to upward, good and beautiful.

At the beginning of this year, Jiuquan Prison issued the "Implementation Plan for the Integration of Dunhuang Culture into the Cultural Transformation of Criminals". "We hope to deeply integrate the core socialist values, Dunhuang culture, and Jiuquan Prison's characteristic prison culture of 'Ming Li, Moral Cultivation, Sincerity, and Goodness', deeply explore the cohesion, guidance, and influence of Dunhuang culture and other excellent traditional cultures in reforming prisoners, give full play to the normative, self-discipline, and guiding role of cultural reform for criminals, and let prisoners purify their hearts and be upwardly kind while feeling the charm of art, so as to truly realize repentance and self-renewal." Li Wentang, secretary of the party committee and director of Jiuquan Prison, said.

This idea coincides with Jin Shumei, and the two sides reached an agreement on Dunhuang dance as the carrier, supplemented by art education, virtue guidance, social help and education, etc., which contributed to the implementation of public welfare cooperation projects. In mid-August this year, the Dunhuang Cultural Prison Public Welfare Cooperation Project was launched. Through video, the inmates of Jiuquan Prison learned the Dunhuang dance tutorial created and compiled by Jin Shumei.

Jin Shumei said: "The first edition of the video tutorial I created took the Vajrayogini dance as the main body, accompanied by "The Great Wall Never Falls" and "JingZhongguo Baoguo", which was intended to stimulate the reform confidence and patriotic feelings of the prisoners when practicing dance. I hope to use Dunhuang dance as a medium to enlighten wisdom and educate people's hearts with excellent traditional culture. ”

Convey the power of love with dance

From August 7th to 9th, Dunhuang Research Institute invited 32 students from Xiaojinwan Nationalities School in Yumen City to participate in a free study tour into the Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang.

Seven years ago, Jin Shumei became acquainted with children in immigrant villages through the implementation of the New Rural Children's Dance Aesthetic Education Project. After hearing that the Dunhuang Research Institute will volunteer to carry out a study tour for students to enter the Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang, she immediately won the opportunity for the children to experience Dunhuang culture at close range. The children toured the Mingsha Mountain Crescent Spring Scenic Area, watched the movie "Millennium Mogao" with the theme of the historical and cultural background of Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes and the dome movie "Dream Buddha Palace" showing exquisite grotto art at the Mogao Grottoes Digital Exhibition Center, visited the Dunhuang Museum, and danced Dunhuang dance with Teacher Jin Shumei in front of the nine floors of the Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes.

"For the children of immigrant villages, apart from their hometown, this is the farthest place they have ever been. After returning, the children's learning momentum is even stronger. Fan Yuejiao, the class teacher of the fourth grade of Yumen Xiaojinwan School, said.

Over the past 7 years, Jin Shumei has adhered to public welfare undertakings, created and choreographed dance programs, organized various literary and artistic activities, and built a display platform for children in immigrant villages, so that children can gain self-confidence and a sense of accomplishment through performances. Jin Shumei led her volunteer team to travel more than 200,000 kilometers, visited more than 1,000 families of left-behind children, contacted dance schools for 8 left-behind orphans and provided free learning opportunities, trained more than 260 cultural class teachers into dance volunteers, and benefited more than 40,000 children in nearly 100 schools.
